Chapter 3

"So let me get this straight. I am your mate which means we are bond together for all of eternity?"

Darren nodded. We had moved downstairs because I was complaining about being hungry. Jack made me a sandwich which I scarfed down in less than minute.

The moment Darren and I had shared earlier was gone. He looked cold and distant now.

"Do you sniff glue?" I asked

Jack chuckled then turned it into a cough when Darren shot him a steely glare.

"Look, I know this is a lot to comprehend but because we are mates, you are in danger. Travis knows who you are and what you are to me. We have to keep you here." Darren said. He didn't move from the wall he was leaning against nor did he uncross his arms from his chest.

"First off who is Travis?" I asked. I was getting tired of asking questions.

"The Alpha of the Anubis pack. The one you were unlucky to meet earlier." Jack replied.

"How did they know I was Darren's mate if I haven't seen him until tonight?"

"Well you see..." Jack began.

"I go to Webster." Darren interrupted."And I saw you first day of classes. Since then I have kept my distance to protect you and had Jack keep an eye on you."

I started drumming my fingers because I knew I was about to explode. Jack talked to me on the second day of class but I couldn't shake him. Usually I had my nose in a book but Jack was persistent to get to know me. I thought he liked me but never once had he come on to me, now I know why.

I looked up at Jack with angry tears in my eyes, "So our friendship was a lie?" I asked him.

"No!" Jack exclaimed.

I got up from the stool I had been siting on and started for the door.

"I need to leave. I can't be around any of you. This is just too much." I said.

An arm snaked around my waist and Darren's breath was on my neck.

"You aren't leaving." He said.

"Watch me." I retorted. I stomped my foot down and threw my elbow back. I caught him in the chest and he stumbled back. I flew outside and saw that we were just down the street from campus.

I looked behind me and saw no one coming out of the huge mansion I had just exited.

I flew down the street and made it to Webster's campus. The Student Center was the only building open at this time of night and thankfully it was close. Darting toward the luminous building, I made my way in and to the front desk. A college student was sitting behind the desk on a laptop and had earphones in. I stopped in front of the desk and waved my hand in front of her face.

"I need to borrow the phone." I said.

"Why?" the student at the counter asked. She was chewing bubble gum and I just wanted to smack her silly.

"I left my purse and phone in my boyfriend's car. We had a fight and he left me. Please I need a cab." The lie came out so naturally and I even surprised myself with it.

The student looked sympathetic and handed me a phone. I called a cab and waited for my only way back to sanity.
