Chapter 11

"Where do you think you are going?" Jack asked.

I had my hand on the front door's knob. After Darren stormed off, Jack had gone to some unknown destination so I took it upon myself to explore a little. After a few rooms of nothing but empty bedrooms, I decided it was time to eat.

"I'm hungry so I was going to go to the Student Center. It's only 7 so they should still be open. Is that okay with you?" I said.

Jack sighed and said, " I'll come with you."

"No. I'll escort her." Darren said, coming out of nowhere.

He looked like he just got out of the shower and his dark t-shirt still clung to wet spots on his chest. God he looked so good.

"I can handle it on my own. Thanks." I told both of them.

"Ha. You aren't being let out of my sight." Darren responded.

I rolled my eyes and turned back to the door, ignoring him and opening it. I went out into the front yard and Darren's followed.

"Go away." I said.

"Not a chance." He replied.

I walked down the street at a fast pace which he easily matched due to his long legs.

"It's not safe for you to be alone. I'm trying to protect you." He finally spoke up.

"Huh and here I thought you were just being an over bearing ass."

"Grace....Im trying. Just know that." He spoke softly.

I didn't even warrant his comment with a remark. So I just kept walking and he follwed in silence.

We were almost to the Student Center of Webster University. Some students were milling about but not many since it was so late. The Student Center was still lit up and I couldn't wait to eat some of the chicken alfredo.

I opened the door and walked in, all too aware of Darren's presence behind me. The Student Center was huge. A small kitchen was to the left with a counter set up so you could order and take your food with you. The right half was covered in tables and chairs. A couple of students were at one of the bigger tables chatting happily but everything else was empty. A few of the female students stared at Darren but I pretended not to notice.

I went up to the counter and ordered. When I was finished I stepped to the side looking at Darren who made no movements to order.

I raised one eyebrow and said, "Are you ordering?"

"They don't have anything I would enjoy eating." He said.

"What do you mean?"

"I like my stuff almost rare..." he replied.

"Gross." I scrunched up my nose and he smiled.

"Order up!" the cook said and slide me a plate with the pasta on it. My mouth immediately started watering.

I grabbed a glass of water and went to an empty table looking out at one of the many windows alining the wall.

Darren sat across from me with his hands on the table. They were laid flat and his eyes bore into mine. I looked at my plate and started spearing noodles.

"So why are you so bossy?" I asked him, plopping noodles into my mouth

"It's my job."

"Im not part of your job or pack."

"Yes you are, You have been for awhile."

"What do you mean awhile?" I asked.

Darren sighed before speaking again which meant I was in for quite the story.
