Chapter 12
We walked back in silence. I was in another mood because I wasn't too sure on how I could keep my rising libido in check. I just wanted to be normal, not wanting to take my clothes off around Darren.
He entered the mansion first and I could tell his cold demeanor was back.
"You know where your room is." He said.
"Aren't you just warm and fuzzy..."
Darren grunted and went up the stairs.
I stuck my tongue out at Darren's back, what a moody person. But hey, who was I to judge?
I couldn't help but to think about our conversation at the Student Center though. He was honest with me and let me see a part of his life for the first time.
If the reason he kept his distance was to protect me then I can understand that. He is still withdrawn but a new plan was forming in my head. Let's see how long it would take for me to break down his icy barrier.

I felt myself falling asleep on the couch. I had gone into the living room because it was completely deserted. I had no idea where Jack or Darren was but I didn't care as long as they left me alone.
I had been watching a random TV show about doctors when I felt my eyelids drooping. I drifted off only to be awoken what felt like moments later even though it could have been hours.
I was being carried up the stairs. I didn't have to open my eyes to know it was Darren. With our skin touching the electricity jumping off the contact was enough for me to recognize my mate.
We reached the top of the stairs and he turned right. We were going to the bedroom he deemed mine.
The hallway seemed too short but I am assuming it's because of Darren's long legs. He easily opened the door without shifting me too much and stepped in without any hesitation.
As soon as he laid me down on the bed I opened my eyes. His back was towards me and he was leaving.
"Where do you think you are going?" I asked.
"Back to my study." He grunted.
"Stay. Please."
He turned to look at me. His eyes were so beautiful I almost gasped because they were looking straight at me.
"Please." I said again.
He shut the door behind him and pulled a chair next to the bed.
"I didn't mean sit near the bed." I said.
"You didn't specify, but it's safer this way." He replied.
"Pushing me away doesn't seem safe, it seems lonely." I said and turned my back to him. I pulled the covers around me waiting for him to get up and leave but I felt the bed dip. He got close enough to me that when he breathed I felt his chest touch my back. He wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me closer.
"I don't want anything to happen to you but I also don't want you to hurt. You need to promise me something." Darren said to me.
"Anything." I said. For some reason, in this moment I would have given him everything.
"Do as I say until the Travis thing is under control. Pushing you away doesn't seem to be working and now I'm scared to lose you in all of this."
"I'll try." I said then closed my eyes.
I fell asleep quickly because I was counting our heartbeats like someone else would count sheep and that is where I found sleep.
