After our class, Mark invited Kitty out for clubbing. I was against the idea but I had no right to stop him. Especially if she agreed to his invitation. I was invited, too, anyway. I could still stay on guard of her.
Mark would pick us up at eight in the evening. It was only six so I decided to walk her home, and maybe -- just maybe -- catch up from everything we missed about each other. She was hesitant, at first, but agreed when I insisted.
She has been living in an apartment five blocks away from the university. She was alone. In London. She was supposed to be in Barcelona, but she's here. I loved the thought but I still wondered.
I looked for her in her apartment and found her taking medicine.
"You're sick?" I asked.
She jolted when she heard me. "Just the usual headache."
I shrugged. "Be sure you'll be okay. I thought you're in Barcelona for college."
"Dad decided to send me here, instead," she replied then looked away.
She's hiding something. "When will Lance come back?"
She glanced at me. "I-I don't know. He said he'll call."
"What about your baby? Who's taking care of him? Or her?" I inquired.
She looked away again. "My dad's housemaid."
I narrowed my eyes at her. "Kitty."
Her eyes kept on blinking when she turned to me. "Yes?"
I wanted to ask her what she was hiding but I did not do it. I took a step closer to appreciate her pretty face.
"I've missed you," I muttered.
"Me, too," she replied softly.
I couldn't hold it in. I leaned closer and planted a kiss on her forehead. Her warmth gave me relief. How I've missed her over the years.
"I'm sorry for hurting you," I told her.
"I'm sorry for leaving you," she apologized. "I had to."
I bent my head in agreement. "I know. Kitty?"
She peeked at me.
"I hope we can catch up before we part again," I voiced out.
She did not answer me. She kissed my cheek and hugged me. I hugged her back. Her hug got tighter when I did that.
"Can we stay like this for a while?" she asked.
I kissed her hair in assurance. "For as long as you want."
I heard her sniff. She was crying. I wanted to make her hush but I restrained myself. She would cry harder if I do that. I let her cry until she was done.
After what has seemed to be an hour of just holding and hugging each other, she let go. Her eyes were swollen when I looked at her.
"You look like a vampire," I teased, trying to make her smile.
I succeeded. She smiled.
I glanced at my watch. "We still have thirty minutes before Mark drops by to pick us up. Want to watch some porn?" I teased again.
Her smile grew wider.
"Or maybe do some porn?" I teased one more time.
This time, she laughed. "I'm not yet skilled in that profession."
"Yeah, me, too," I said. She narrowed her eyes at me. "I'm not lying. I've only been in love with one girl and I haven't taken her to bed yet."
"Have? So you're still in love with her?" she asked.
"Very," I simply said.
She shrugged and walked away from me. She sat on her couch before looking back at me.
"Then you should be with her and have the time of your life," she suggested.
I smirked. I joined her on the couch and rested my arm around her. "I am."
Her brows lifted and frowned at me. "I'm not in the mood to flirt with you, Ethan."
"I wasn't," I answered promptly.
She glared at me and managed to stand to leave. I pulled her back to her seat and caged her with my arms. I parted her thighs with my knee. I leaned closer so she wouldn't look away.
"Ethan, you don't want to do this," she murmured. "Think about Lucy."
I sighed. "We broke up."
"What? I thought she followed you here. You know, to keep the fire burning," she uttered.
I laughed. "She never did because we broke up."
She looked at me in surprise. "Why did you break up?"
I took a glance at her curious face. "Because you left." She frowned. "I was devastated. I thought you'll end up with me, but you did not. But it was my fault."
I took a deep breath and sat back next to her before continuing.
"I kept pushing you away. But every time I do, I pull you back in. I let my fear take control of me. I was too afraid to lose you. I did not make a move because I was too scared to hurt you and lose you completely.
I didn't know that I'll lose you either way. I flirt with you not to play around, but simply because I like you and I enjoy seeing your lovely eyes and gorgeous smile. I flirt with you because I love you, Kitty. I have always been."
I laughed bitterly.
"I'm sorry if I wasted too many years to tell you about it. I was too dumb. Too scared. God knows I never wanted to hurt you. I did things to keep you from hurting, but I still managed to hurt you. I'm very sorry for everything, Kitty."
Silence ensued after my long speech. She did not speak. All I heard from her was her breathing, until she excused herself to take a shower. I agreed. I couldn't keep her.
