"I'm sorry, Jesse. I really am." I try one more time before I stand us both up.
Still crying, she tries to fly inside the house like the others, but I hold her back.
"Say something. Please." I shake her a little too roughly.
Her eyes grow wide in surprise at my eagerness. "You know I used to like you, Fang. Like I really liked you, but you were always paying attention to no one really but Max. Something you have to get over, but it takes a really long goddamn time. Just as I get him, and here you come. Now he's gone." The girl looks broken, the brown in her eyes dull in color, and her skin pale past normal.
"Just don't come near me, Fang. You stay with Max. I don't care if you couldn't control yourself. He was human, Fang. There's no way he could've killed you the way he did." She stands back. "I promise you, if you come anywhere near me again, I promise you I'll kill you."
