Two days have passed, and we have finally made it to a tiny abandoned barn. Both Max and I are keeping watch while Fang, Iggy, and Nudge go look for food. It's been very quiet between Max and I. Very quiet. We haven't talked much ever since we both found out that we both happen to like the same person.
This only thing that I find my big sister and I have in common is that we are booth very stubborn. We both like to have the last word, and that we are both refusing to be the first one to speak.
While Angel, Gazzy, and Total start a fire so we can keep warm, Max sends occasional glances towards me. To my surprise, she is the first to speak.
"I'm sorry about Jacob... and I'm sorry I didn't tell you what Angel did." she says, letting down her ponytail.
I shrug and smile wryly. "Oh don't be sorry. It turns out he was just another Whitecoat. I probably would've killed him too." I turn my back as I hide the tear that threatens to fall down my cheek.
Like I have said before. I don't keep love around. And today I still don't keep love around.
"I'm sorry about Fang." I say. "I know he doesn't really like me. You can tell he loves you, Max. It's obvious. The way he looks at you when he thinks you're not watching."
"You think so?" she says, this time turning her back.
I nod. "I know so."
Our quick conversation is ended short when we first notice Fang and Iggy coming back with and injured Nudge in Fang's arms.
And in the distance...
Is a whole flock of Flyboys and a pack of Erasers.
