---Zayla

Owen and I were taking other aspects of our relationship slow, we didn't spend all of our time in bed together and he loved taking me places.  It's been a few weeks since our last time we did the dirty and Owen was on a business trip shadowing his dad.  His mom and I were handling the company while they were gone.

I was waiting on the elevator with his mom when I started feeling lightheaded and things started to spin.  I grasped the railing on the back wall of the elevator.  "Zayla?"  I heard, just before I passed out falling on the floor.

---Owen

It was between meetings and I was trying to call Zayla, but received no response.  "Maybe she's in a meeting with your mom."

"Maybe."  I said following my dad down the hall.

"So, what do you think about your girlfriend being higher up than you at the company right now?"

"She deserves the job."  I said.

"When you become CEO don't do anything to mess up what you and Zayla have.  She loves you and needs you.  She had a bad marriage and until the final trial for the divorce is over, she is fighting for what she deserves.  Everything he took from her, she needs back.  Make sure you treat her as an equal within this company like I do mom and you."

"I know.  I will."

About halfway through our next meeting, my cell phone buzzed and I saw it was a text from my mom.  "Sorry."  I said turning all sounds off.  It was two words.  Zayla and the word hospital.

"Everything alright?"  my dad asked.

"No."  I said.  "Zayla's going to the hospital.  I don't know if mom's taking her or if she's going by ambulance."

"Take a cab.  I'll be there as soon as I can."

"Thanks dad."  I said grabbing my stuff.

I walked into the emergency room doors and spotted my mom in the waiting room.  "Mom."  I said.

"They were running tests last time I received an update."  she said.  I looked up when the door opened.

"I can't keep giving you updates.  Her family must be here."

"He practically is her family.  Her father moved to Italy and her mother is living in Washington.  They're together."  my mom said.

"I need proof and consent from the patient."  the nurse said.

"I was on a business trip.  She doesn't even know I'm here."  I said.

---Zayla

The nurse returned.  "There's a man here to see you.  Owen?"

"He's my boyfriend.  The father of the baby."  I said, I was facing the wall with my arms over my stomach wanting that to help with the pain.

"Zayla?"  he said, I felt his hand touch my back.  I turned my head so I could look at him.  He slid his palm over my back soothingly.  "What happened?"  he asked.

"I was going to tell you when you got back."  I said.

"Tell me what?"  he asked.

"It doesn't matter anymore."

"Yes it does.  Zayla what is going on?"

"I was pregnant."

"Was?"  he asked.  I saw a hint of tears shining in his eyes.

"Ectopic pregnancy."  I said.  "I'm sorry."  I said crying.  "I'm so sorry."

"Shh..."  he said softly hugging me carefully.

The doctor came in,  "How are we doing?"

"I'd be fine if I didn't hurt."  I said.  "And if I was still pregnant."

"Still pregnant?  Who said you weren't?"

"The nurse."  my stomach lurched and I threw up getting Owen's t-shirt.

"You are still pregnant.  For now."  he said.

"Owen, I'm sorry."  I said.

"It's okay."  he said.  Dr. James pressed on my stomach checking for tenderness.  I sobbed at the sharp pain in my right side.  "Well, you have the pain of an appendicitis.  Your white blood cell count is elevated and where the pain is.  We need to go check things out."

"Will the baby be okay?"

"I'll do what I can to keep the baby and you safe.  Right now we need to get that appendix out before it ruptures."

"Okay."  I said.

"I need to get an OR booked and set up.  I can give you some morphine for the pain."  I nodded.

---Owen

I returned from giving her mom an update over the phone and I was able to see Zayla high on morphine.  "How are we doing?"  I asked.

"Fine."  she said.  "Did I tell you there is a baby in here?"  she asked pointing to her stomach.

"Yes you did."

"And you're the baby daddy."  she said making me laugh.

"Yes."

"That explains how that happened.  At least you'll touch me."  I looked at her.  "I'm no some repulsive human being who is only around to cook and clean and do your laundry."

"Zayla."

"What?  It's true.  I did whatever I could to make him notice me and nothing.  I'm not some damn maid.  I'm a human."

"Yes you are and I love you.  You are the most beautiful woman in the world and I am your maid."  I said kissing her cheek making her smile.

"I love you too."  she said.  "I guess I have to tell my other boyfriend."

"Other boyfriend?"  I asked making her laugh.

"Well, there's you."  she said.

"And?"

"Well Tiberius keeps me company when you're gone.  He sleeps on your side of the bed."  she said.

"I'm in competition with a dog?"  I asked making her laugh.

An hour later, I was in the waiting room talking to my parents about Zayla and the baby.  They weren't mad.  They were thrilled.  "I need to get back to Zayla."  I said.

"Okay."  my mom said.

I returned to Zayla's room and she was asleep.  I walked over and brushed my fingertips over her cheek.  "Hey.  I'm back."  I said.  I touched her cheek with my palm.  "Zayla."  I said.  I hit the call button and the doctor rushed in with some nurses.  "She was supposed to be in surgery 45 minutes ago."  I said.

"We didn't have an OR ready."  he said.

"If she loses this baby, you better tell her the truth as to why."  I said.  He nodded and they wheeled her off.
