Owen was showing me the new house.  I was 8 weeks pregnant and things were going great.  Owen pulled up in front of the ranch house.  The house was huge and beautiful.  I saw the horses grazing in the fence.  "Tyler and Savannah own the horses.  They needed a place for them.  I told them they could rent the stable for a couple hundred dollars a month.  Go look around.  Mom and Dad will be by in an hour.  We have to tell them the news."

"When are we getting married?"

"Patience baby.  I don't want anyone to think that the marriage is just because of the baby.  It wouldn't be."

An hour later, I was unpacking our blankets when Owen's parents arrived.  "Hi sweetie.  How are you?"

"I'm fine.  We need to tell you something."

"Zayla and I..."

"I'm 8 weeks pregnant."

"Congratulations!" Mama Vance hugged me.

"That's my boy." Papa Vance said hugging Owen.

That weekend, the get together at our new house was in an hour.  The celebration of our pregnancy was an hour away.  I was sitting in my office hiding.  Owen kept calling me, his mom arrived to take me to the hospital.

I was sitting on the couch in the waiting room after my mother called me.  She walked in and sat beside me.  "Why doesn't she tell me things?"

"Owen, she wanted to.  She loves you.  She doesn't have a mother except me.  She's still not used to a lot of things Owen.  You two have been together for roughly 7 months and she has had two miscarriages."

"I love her and I just want her to be honest with me.  It's my baby too."  The doctor came in.

"Owen, she wants to see you."  I went down to Zayla's room and knocked on the door.

"Owen."  She said with a sob she reached for me seeing me in the doorway.  I rushed to her side hugging her tight.  I pressed my face into her neck.

"It's okay.  I'm here.  It's okay."  I climbed into the bed beside her.  She kept sobbing as I held onto her.  Her head resting on my chest with her hands grasping my shirt.

I was home a week later, Owen was staying away like I told him to, and I didn't mean it.  I was sitting on the couch wrapped in a blanket.  I grabbed my cell phone and pressed one on my speed dial.  He answered first ring.  "Zayla."  He said answering.

"Owen, will you come home?  Please?"  I asked quietly.

"I'll be there soon okay?"

"Okay."  I said.

Owen arrived as promised and he climbed onto the couch behind me after taking off his shoes.  I pressed  my lips to his jaw sliding my arms around his neck.  He moved so he was partially covering me.  I rested my head against his.  "Are you hungry?"  He asked.

"A little.  Can we order a pizza?"  I asked.

"Of course.  What kind?"

"Supreme pizza, stuffed crust."  He sat up and grabbed his phone.

Two weeks later, I was sitting in Owen's office in his comfortable leather chair.  He was on a business trip with his dad.  I looked up when the door opened.  "Oh hello.  I'm sorry.  I'm looking for Owen Vance."  The woman said.  She was younger than me and beautiful.

"He's out of town.  Can I help you?"

"No.  I'll just come back."

"Who are you?"

"I'm his wife."  I looked at her.

"Oh."  I felt hurt and betrayed.  She walked out.  I called Owen.

"I miss you."  He said answering his phone.

"Your wife just stopped by."  I said and hung up on him.

I was stuffing my clothes into bags when I heard Owen's voice as he came inside.  "Zayla!"  Savannah closed and locked the bedroom door.  Tyler was blocking the door.

"She doesn't want to see you."  I heard Tyler say.

"Let me through man.  I can and will make you move."  Owen said.

"Stay away from her.  Go see your wife."  He snapped.  I put my bag over my shoulder and Savannah took my other bag.  I unlocked the door and Savannah followed me out.

"Zayla let me explain."  Owen said.

"I'm done.  I'm done with being lied to.  Being surprised.  I'm done with you."  I said looking at him.  He looked hurt and I could tell he hated seeing me hurt.

"Zayla please."

"Just leave me alone."  I said quietly.

I watched her leave and punched the brick siding on the house feeling things break within my hand.  I got to my parents house and my dad saw me and let me in.  "Son, what is it?"

"That manipulative bitch is back.  Zayla left me again and I don't think she is coming back."  I said.  He unwrapped my hand.

"You need surgery."

"No.  I need Zayla."  I said.

At the hospital, I was asleep with my broken hand resting on a pillow beside me.  My mother sitting beside me.

I was unpacking my bag when my phone rang.  It was mama Vance.  "Hello?"  I said answering the phone.

"Honey, Owen is in the hospital.  He had to have surgery on his hand.  He punched a brick wall after you left."

"I don't want to see him."

"Zayla, he is not married to that woman.  He was right after high school.  He thought he had to marry her before going overseas.  She cheated on him and was very manipulative.  He divorced her after 6 months and that was 5 or 6 years ago."

"That still doesn't make up for the fact that he lied to me."

"I understand sweetie but he needs you."

"I need space from him.  I'm going away for a while with Savannah and Tyler.  I'll call when I'm back."

"Okay.  Be safe."

"I will."
