—-ZaylaOwen and I returned from our amazing honeymoon. Owen carried our bags in while I went inside and saw Jr. and Austin. "Ma!"
"Hi!" I sat down and picked up my boys holding them in my lap. "Does mommy get kisses?" Jr and Austin kissed my cheek. "Look, there's daddy." They climbed down and ran to their daddy, stumbling slightly. He caught them picking them up.
"How was the honeymoon?" His Mom asked.
"Amazing." I said.
"In more ways than one." Owen said.
"The scenery was beautiful."
"Yeah it was." Owen said referring to me.
"Unlike Owen I am referring to the actual place." I said and Owen laughed.
****skipping ahead
It was Austin and Jr's first Easter Egg hunt. I put their names in for the drawings for toys, savings bonds, and gift cards. Sarah and Tyler were here with their 3 month old and they put her name in for the savings bond drawing.
Jr. kept ahold of his daddy's hand as they waited to start hunting for eggs. Austin was with his grandpa who was going to help him. "Any babies in the future?" Mom asked.
"I hope so." I said. "It's too boy-ish around the house." I said. The egg hunt started and the boys ran ahead of Owen and his dad.
Sarah was sitting beside me with Daphne watching the chaos. Tyler held out his hands for Daphne and she willingly went to him.
"Austin!" I heard Owen calling for Austin. Dad brought Jr over.
"Here stay with grandma. Austin's missing." I ran to the center of the park. Owen jogged over.
"He was right in front of me and Dad. Jr fell and I turned around for a second." Owen said. "He couldn't have gone far."
"Let's split up." I said. Owen nodded and jogged toward the far side of the park. I took the side with the bathrooms, Owen's Dad took a section in the middle and so did Tyler.
I saw some trying to force their way into the bathrooms. I ran that direction. "Hey!" It was Justin, he turned around and took off. I tried the door. "Austin, it's mommy."
"Mama!" I heard him crying on the other side.
"It's okay baby. Mommy's right here." I couldn't get the door to budge.
"Mommy!" He screamed and cried desperately for me.
"Baby, I'm right here." I tried pushing on the door. Sarah ran over. "He's trapped in here. Get Owen." She went to get him for me. "Austin, it's okay. I'm here." He kept crying. "Baby stop crying okay? You'll get sick. Daddy's on his way okay?"
"I need mama." He said with a sob.
"I know. I need my baby boy. You need to calm down okay?"
Owen ran over with his dad and Tyler. "Justin chased him in here. The door won't budge. He's scared."
"Step back." Owen slid by me. "I'll get to him. Zayla step back."
"Owen what if he's hurt?"
"Zayla, I'll get him out okay? We will take him to the hospital. Step back okay? I don't want you to get hurt. Austin, buddy, go to the corner by the sink okay? Daddy's going to get you out okay?"
"I want mama." He said crying.
"Mommy is still here. You need to get back okay?" Owen got the door open and went inside. He walked out with Austin. Austin reached for me and I took him from Owen. Austin pressed his face into my shoulder. I pressed kisses to his face.
That night, I was sitting on the couch watching a movie when Owen came in. "He's finally asleep. He woke up after to got him upstairs." He laid on the couch with his head in my lap.
"Justin's back. He's the one who forced Austin in there. Somehow Austin got away from him and with the door." I said. "I shouldn't feel like I have to block every door in this house right now." I said starting to sob. He sat up and hugging me tight.
"First of all, we're getting two dogs. Second of all, I will keep you and the boys safe, okay? I promise." He pressed a kiss to my hair. I held onto him letting him comfort me. He rubbed my back soothingly.
The next morning, I was grabbing my work clothes for the day when I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach. I felt the bile rise up in my throat. I covered my mouth with my hand and burst through the bathroom door. Owen was taking a shower. "Zayla?" I threw up in the toilet. I couldn't hear anything over the rush in my ears and the sound of my heart pounding in my ears. I felt Owen's soothing touch as he gathered my hair in one hand and rubbed my back with the other.
I finished emptying my stomach and flushed the toilet getting to my feet. Owen handed me a washcloth and a glass of water. "I'll call Dad and tell him we're staying home."
"Owen, go to work."
"No. I can work in my office. Come on. Drink up. If you keep the water down I'll make you some toast and eggs." He pulled on a pair of jeans and crouched in front of me. I was sitting on the lid to the toilet seat.
"I hate throwing up." I said.
"Drink your water." He said kissing my forehead. He stood up and went into the other room. I heard him on the phone.
That afternoon, I was sitting on the floor with Austin and Jr. while they played with their toys. "How are you feeling baby?" Owen asked coming in.
"Better." I said.
"Good. Want to go to the animal shelter?" He asked.
"Get the boys ready and I'll go change." I said. He helped me up.
We returned home with two Newfie mastiff puppies. Austin and Jr. loved them already.
That night, I walked into the living room and saw the boys asleep on their puppies and the puppies asleep as well. "Just two boys and their dogs." Owen said picking up the boys.
"Owen, can we get one more?" He looked at me.
"Please. The guy at the shelter said that the German Shepherd was going to be put down within a week."
"Zayla..."
"Please just think about it."
"Okay." He said. "Kennel up." The puppies looked at him funny. I opened the door to the kennel and they ran in getting comfortable. I closed the door and latched it shut.
