A Letter To My Old Dolls

Hey guys,
Although I only had two boy dolls.
The rest was girls
That I dressed up in old doylies...
I'm sorry I never dressed you in expensive clothes.

I got an Alladin once.
I remember being so happy,
Because now my dolls have a boyfriend.
Oh, Al...
You were always my favourite,
Even after I got a new Ken doll.

You used to be the one who got the girls.
You lost your little shirt,
You lost both your boots.
But, still you remained my favourite.

Of course,
I had a doll who was my favourite girl.
I used to play hairdresser with her.

Over and over I would cut her hair,
Wash it and even condition it.
I still remember how I regretted it being so short.

And once,
I got a gift from my sister one Christmas.
It was packed with baby dolls and a mom and a dad.

There was a pram,
And for once, I had clothes to dress you in.
But, I lost them.
And I dressed them in doylies too.

I lost the babies,
The pram,
The clothes.

But, dear sweet doll, I have you still.

Years later,
You're in a bag.
You were in a basket,
Until I got a job and needed it.

Today,
Whenever someone says:
"Throw them away",
I turn to them and say:
"Not yet. They still have a purpose."

That purpose is to remind me.
Remind me of all the things I got,
Thanks to my dolls.

Thanks to my dolls,
I still have an imagination.
All my stories started with you.
I had you reenact them, remember?

Even though,
You never had clothes,
You had my heart.

Today,
I sit with sorrow,
But still I write the stories.
They never stopped, dear dolls.
I only found something else.
I found another doll to reenact them.

I called her "Writing".
