Chapter six | Wreak
"Just think of happy thoughts and you will fly."
-Peter PanI shoved the phone back into Bellamy's hands and stormed off up into my room. My eyes burned. My heart pounded and my throats felt tight. Both my mom and Bellamy called after me, Bellamy is the only one who hran after me. I slipped into my room and shut my door before Bellamy could get in.
I couldn't help the few tears the fell down onto my cheeks. I rose my shaky hand to my lips and pressed down. As violent as it sounds, I wanted to rip them off. I wanted the feeling of disgust to be gone though I couldn't remember it. I wanted to wash away the feeling of being seen as disgusting if that makes sense.
There was a tapping sound from outside my window. I wiped away my few tears with the back of my hand and went over to the window to see Lyra standing there with pebbles. I pulled up the window and she called up to me.
"Come open the front door!" I couldn't go downstairs. Oliver was down there with his dad and my mom. "Now, Hadley! It's cold!" She demanded once more.
I looked left and right. "Just climb up!" I whispered loud enough for her to hear but not loud enough to disturb the neighbors.
"Yes Hadley, because I'm Spider-Man!" She exaggerated. "Just open the front door!" I shook my head at her.
"I'll go get her." Bellamy said from behind me. I spun around automatically and tried to keep myself from falling out the window. Sure enough, he had found a way to get it through the locked door.
"Bellamy? What are you doing here?" Lyra asked. I turned back around and she wriggled her eyebrows at me. I wanted to hide in a corner. Bellamy never answered but when I noticed that Lyra's attention had left to me to the front door, I figured Bellamy had gotten the door open.
I waited on my bed with Mr. Peppers, my brown stuffed animal bear that was wearing a duck costume, in my hands. My mom bought him for me during Easter and I have loved him since. Lyra came running in and pushing the door behind her with such a force that it hit the wall.
"Hadley, bestfriend, are you okay?" She rushed beside me and looked me in the eyes as she spoke. She saw it. I mean, of course, she had. I'm sure everybody saw it but I had the slightest hope that she didn't.
"Yes, I'm okay. I-" I sighed, flopping back into my bed. And she flopped next to me. "It is just worse that I can't even remember what happened and what the comments said they hurt." I said my eyes stinging once more.
She grabbed my hand. "It'll be okay best friend. I can't believe that Oliver would post something like that anyway." My eyes snapped open.
"What? Oliver posted it?" I said, taking the occasional pause in between my words in an attempt to gather my thoughts. She furrowed her eyebrows.
"Yeah. How do you think the photo got out? He probably just wanted the attention because he's a total loser." I wished that she was wrong but deep down I knew she was right. Oliver posted the photo and caused all of this. Suddenly, a loud ring tone blared through the room.
"Crap. It's my mom." Her eyes were wide and she looked at me sympathetically. "I'm sorry Hadley. I have to go of my mom will kill me." She hugged me and I told her it was okay and that'd I'd talk to her later. She tapped on the answer key and ran out of the room at the speed of light. I sat back in my bed and clutched Mr. Pepper tighter.
