Chapter ten | The black and white keys
"Raise your words. Not your voice. It's the rain that grows the flowers. Not thunder."
– RumiI jump into Bellamy's car and hand him the granola bar he asked for. It's been a week since we went on that haunted ghost tour. Which means Bellamy had to go back home. I was pretty bummed because we had grown so incredibly close. We were basically inseparable now.
It was a strange inseparable though. It carried other feelings. Feelings I wasn't really willing to accept. It was ridiculous. "Okay, now, say I'm Kiara. I come up to you and start bothering you about the whole Oliver thing. What do you do?" I groan as that is the first thing that comes out of his mouth.
We went over this whole scenario last night. His plans were insane. He has this whole other image of me that I absolutely could not fulfill, me being who I am. "Throw hands..." I sigh and look up at him with an arched brow. She shows his million dollar smile and poked me on my cheek.
"Exactly! You beat up that bully!" He cheered as he finally started driving. I rolled my eyes but could help but laugh a little.
"She isn't a bully, Bellamy." I corrected. As much as I don't like Kiara– on of the rudest of the popular group– I wouldn't want people to turn against her as they did me. People started thinking I had been sleeping around with everybody at school. Some even confirmed it. They said that I pushed myself on them.
I knew it wasn't true, and I had the people I needed most beside me so I didn't see it as that much of a big deal. I don't care what they said anymore. Bellamy told me that they are only targeting me because I'm sweet and they think I'm weak when in reality, I'm strong and I should prove that by not showing that I reacted.
The whole phycological part of it made sense but I thought the nice people were the ones they left alone. "Well yeah, she is! She's bothering little Hadley over here, so that makes her a bully."
My eyes narrowed at him. "Did you just make fun of my height?" I said jokingly but made sure to keep a somewhat serious tone to it. He winked at me.
"You know it." I giggled and turned to press my head against the window as we drove. It was a rainy day today. Which I was happy about. The trees swished by. I didn't notice the short glances Bellamy occasionally tossed my way. I thought nothing of it though.
We arrived at the school shortly. It was still pretty empty though. Lyra and Max sat on the steps with a large umbrella above them and a towel below them, fighting over something but all I noticed was the rolling of Lyra's eyes and Max's flailing arms. Bellamy and I walked up to them with odd expressions. Lyra was telling about him messing everything up and Max was tossing constant apologies at her.
"I can't you believe you.." Is what I chimed in on. Lyra's eyes rested on me and she instantly shot up from the stair she sat on and tossed her arms around me. "Oh my god. Never leave me with this idiot again." Max stood beside her and elbowed her in her side as she said that. I laughed and pried her off me.
"What was that about anyway?" I asked, curiosity getting the best of me. Lyra sighed.
"Max cracked my phone." I pressed my lips into a fine line. It was bad, but it wasn't really necessary to freak on him like that. "Then he broke a piece of the piano in the music room." My thoughts stopped for a moment. "No great. See what you did me?! You broke Hadley!"
