Riley's POV

It was the last day of summer and Lucas and I were helping my mom bake somethings for the restaurant.

"Riley, I need about 50-100 fruit tarts," my mom said. She was telling Lucas and I what she needed us to make.

"And maybe a few cakes," she said.

"Will you two be okay?" my mom asked worriedly.

"Mom, we will be fine," I said,"I promise."

"Mrs. Matthews, if anything happens to one of us we will tell you," Lucas said reassuringly.

"I am trusting you two," she said,"If anything happens and you two don't tell me you two are grounded, and no monkey business."

"Okay," Lucas said.

"Mom, I promise you everything will be fine," I said.

"You are starting to sound like Maya," mom said.

"Mom, it will be fine," I said,"I promise."

"Okay, I am putting my entire faith into you two," my mom said,"Okay, kids?"

"Okay," Lucas and I said at the same time.

She left and we started to find the all of the stuff needed to make everything we needed.

"Okay, what do you want to start with?" Lucas asked looking at the list of ingredients my mom gave us for everything she asked us to make.

"Maybe we should make the five cakes first," I said.

"Okay," he said.

We got all of the stuff out to make the five cakes we needed and started baking.

"Okay so we need 2 eggs," he said.

"But we are making five cakes so let's just keep the container out," I replied.

We were mixing the cake batter and I think it proved how little we actually knew about cooking.

"Do you know how to turn on a mixer?" he asked.

"Um, I don't know," I answered.

"Do you want to go ask Katy?" Lucas asked.

"But that would be a dumb reason to ask," I said.

"Good point," he said,"Let's see, how could we turn on a mixer?"

The thing he didn't know is that I love baking and I knew how to turn on a mixer. It was funny to watch him struggle with it.

He started by plugging it in and then attempted to turn it on which made a small mess. I was tryign to hold back a giggle but it came to unbearable.

"What is it, missy?" he has smarkily.

"Want some help?" I asked after wiping away my tears.

"Yes, please," he said.

I took his place and correctly turned on the mixer.

"You knew how to do that all along and you didn't tell me!?" he exclaimed.

"I wanted to see how long it took you or how long it took until I felt sorry for you," I said half laughing.

"You are a mean person," he said,"Come here I have to tickle the mean person."

"No you don't," I shrieked.  I ran to the other side of the kitchen. The kitchen was already pretty small so I couldn't run that far but I tried to get as much space between us before Lucas attacked me with tickles.

Before I even got to the other side Lucas started tickling me to death.

"Lucas, stop!" I said laughing.

"Not until I get a kiss," he said with a beaming smile.

"Okay," I said. I placed my lips on his before I ran off to start actually baking the cakes.

He threw some flour at me so I threw some back at him.

This went on for a good 20 minutes until finally my mom came in to make sure we weren't messing around.

"Kids, it is a mess in here," she exclaimed.

"Sorry," Lucas said.

"Clean this up and I will be back in about 30 minutes to make sure you have at least something in the oven," she said.

We  finally got everything made and we got everything done. Even if it took a little bit of time we still had a fun time.

The right people will be the ones who make you smile. Keep those people around as long as humanly physically possible.
