'Mum'

Anna turned to me, she was conversing with Gleb Dedov about what, I was unsure, but felt it either was to do with the award ceremony or finding someone to kill. I wasn't sure whether mum agreed with dad's view, with regards to only eating people that deserved it and I was pretty sure dad knew this, which was why he always went to the courts to vet potential candidates. If mum was to go, she'd probably deem someone worthy of punishment by death for a parking fine.

'Ryan?'

'CanI have a word?'

I could see Gleb look at me, then lower his head. He then circled me as I walked towards mum. When I turned to see where he was, he had already left the room.

'What is it? Are you alright?'

'I'm fine mum, I just wanted to remind you that it's sports day tomorrow and we're to invite a member of our family'.

Anna smiled. 'I'll definitely be there'

'Can I come too'.

I turned to see Sofia standing behind me with Steven next to her.

'Yes, please come', Steven said before I could.

'You're welcome to join me Sofia', Anna said, although her tone didn't hold the same sentiment her words did.

'I'm taking part in load of events, reckon I'll win them all'.

'No', Anna said abruptly, 'you can't. You'll need to lose them'.

'Oh please mum', Steven begged.

Let me explain mum's reasoning for Steven not winning the events. Being a vampire comes with it's perks. A vampire is faster than a human, more powerful and more agile, it's how they've managed to avoid annihilation even though they are known about. If Steven was to win all his events, it would draw attention to him and that would be the last thing the Sokolov family would want.

'You can win one event, but no more'.
