Chapter 13

'Time to settle boys', mum said walking in with dad right behind her.

I was already in bed, Steven was on the floor making something out of boxes. He had told me that he was going to make a space ship, but he must have changed his mind half way through and started makings a multistory car park, because it looked nothing like a spaceship.

'Have you brushed your teeth', dad asked, directing his question towards me. It was a known fact that vampires didn't need to look after their teeth as well as humans. In fact they weren't born with milk teeth. The teeth they were born with were the teeth they would have for their entire life.

'No dad', I admitted and reluctantly exited the warmth of my bed and headed out the room.

As I exited the bedroom I heard mum say to Steven, 'you can read a book in bed, but I want to see you settled'

That brings me to another benefit of being a vampire, you don't require much sleep. I had once overheard Sofia telling mum that the average vampire sleeps less than three hours a night. I couldn't even imagine that, I loved sleeping.

I attempted to open the bathroom door, but it was locked.

'Who is it?', Ryan recognized the voice as being Gleb's

'It's me....Ryan'

'Go away boy...find another bathroom to use'

I thought for a moment, I didn't want to go down a level to use the other bathroom and as Gleb was upstairs from where his bedroom was, I was pretty sure the bathroom below would also be occupied.

'You still there?', Gleb called from the other side of the door.

'Yes, but.....'

'Go away now. I don't want to see you when I get out of here'

He sounded angry and I wondered if it had something to do with the diminishing food source. I headed back to my room. Mum was busy tucking in the blanket around Steven.

'You all done?', dad asked.

I nodded and jumped back into bed. Mum kissed Steven then came over to me and kissed my head.

'Night'

Right, before I end this chapter, there's probably something that's been nagging you about me. I'm human and they're vampires, with urges. So why do they not have their urges when I'm around. Well, I'd love to give you some fancy scientific answer to that question, but the truth is I'm the only human born of a vampire that I'm aware of and there's no premise to base a solution to that question. What we believe, is that, because the vampires can't sense me as being human, they have no urges around me.
