I was sure that Brian had something to do with Patrick's "accident", even though the police also turned up asking question, only no one had seen anything and Patrick wasn't in the mood to talk. Either that or he was too scared to talk.
Mrs Butcher, Patrick's mum, had not attended the sports day, but had been called by Mr Lewis and would meet her son at the hospital. The ambulance crew offered one of us to ride with him to the hospital, I persuaded Maureen to do so.
I already had my own ideas of who had done this and the memories of seeing Brian looking up at Sofia and myself in the stands, I was building memories of bruises on his fists and the fact that he wasn't looking at Sofia, but at me, laughing at what he had done or going to do to my friend.
I needed to find him. I ran around the school hoping that he hadn't already left. I should have known better, Brian and his boys were always the last to leave, because students preferred not to be walking around the school in possession of drugs, they preferred to purchase them at the end of the day.
I found him in the same location as he was that morning, performing the same routine to sell his drugs. I wanted to go up to him, accuse him, beat him up, but I knew it was more likely that a second ambulance would be called for, to ship me off to a bed me next to Patrick.
I instead found a discrete place to wait and stayed there until Brian had concluded his deals.
I then watched as he parted ways with his three friends and started his walk home. I followed hoping that a plan would form which would give me the opportunity to kill him. As he made his way further from the school, he headed to a council house area, it was one of the worse neighborhoods in town, I started to see groups of young people hanging around chatting and spitting bars. I was beginning to wish I was a vampire, I knew having that extra strength and speed would make me feel far more relaxed about my environment.
I watched Brian turn down a dark alley, I continued to follow, even though every hair on my body was telling me not to. I saw him knock on a building's side door. I stepped into the shadows and crouched down. After a moment a huge man opened the door, looked up and down the alley before allowing Brian in.
I was unsure what to do next. I waited. A stray cat startled me by coming up and rubbing it's fur on the side of me. I shooed it away. I watched as it nonchalantly walked away from me, it passed the door and started sniffing around the huge skip bins that stood by the side of the wall. I watched it until it disappeared, behind some metal bed frames that had been dumped there.
I heard the door open again and looked back to where Brian had disappeared. He was stood there and the door was closing behind him. He looked both ways down the alley and then walked over to the bins, where he checked his school bag. I was too far away to see what he had in it, but I presumed that he had just got a new supply of drugs. When he seemed satisfied, he left walking towards me.
Panic rose inside me. I felt sure he would see me. I wanted desperately to run, but then he definitely would have seen me. Instead, I stayed still and held my breath. He walked straight past me. I let out a deep breath and decided I was going home.
