Chapter 12

I was in my bedroom doing my Biology homework when the door bell sounded.

'Ryan', mum shouted from downstairs. I was already on my way, not because the visitor was for me, but this was my role in the house. I answered the door to everyone. As I previously stated my family suppress their urge to feed on people when they're hungry with the use of a pill. That day they hadn't ate much, which meant the urge would be great, so they got me to answer the door with instructions I was to get rid of any humans.

I rushed down the stairs. While I'm doing that I feel an explanation is needed for the end of the previous chapter. Remember me bent over the toilet being sick, with mum rubbing my back. Well, there was a reason for this. Mum had fed me some human meat.....deliberately. Mum struggles with the fact that I'm human and lives in hope that at some point I will change into a vampire. She believed by giving me the meat she could see whether I was changing.

'I'm sorry', she said. It hadn't been the first time she had attempted to feed me human meat and every time I had been sick, which was not just unusual for a vampire. In the past, we had fed some of our captives human meat and they never suffered the reaction I did.

I opened the front door. A man that looked familiar stood in front of me.

'Can I help you?', I asked.

He smiled. 'You sure can Ryan. I'm here to see your dad'

'Oh', he knew who I was and I was desperately trying to recall who he was.

'Michael Denford', he said, 'I deal with your father's finances'

'Oh okay', I paused wondering what to say next,'are you......', I paused looking at him.

He chuckled. 'Yes, I am. You can let me in'

I stood aside and Mr Denford walked in. Mum peered around the corner and then came out smiling. 'Michael, please, come in'

I studied "Michael" suspiciously. Was mum flirting with him?

'Dad. Mr Denford is here for you', I yelled, as the two adults before me looked each other in the eyes.

'You look as beautiful as ever, Mrs Sokolov'

Mum blushed.

'Dad', I yelled, 'you have a visitor'

Dad turned up behind mum and greeted Mr Denford. 'Here, come with me, we'll have more privacy in my office'.

Dad lead the way and mum followed behind. I watched "Michael" walk off and I knew I didn't like him.
