Bobby POV

Bobby regretted his actions immediately. He couldn't even do anything as he watched Dean's abused form shake as he tried to put more distance between the two of them. It was painful to watch him as he curled in on himself and make himself as small as possible. Bobby stayed rooted to his spot as he watched Castiel move closer to the boy on the ground. Bobby looks over at Sam who is watching the whole scene unfold in from of them. Sam's eyes are filling with tears and Booby can feel guilt building in his chest. He knew that he should have gotten these boys away from their father the day their mother passed. He had wanted to believe at the time that John would get better and become a father. Glancing back at the two boys by the wall, he sees the two of them cuddled together. At least one situation is being handled.

"Sam," Bobby tries to pull the young boy's attention away from his older brother.

"How could I have not noticed?" Sam turned to the old man with tears rolling down his cheeks. "How? I can't believe that..."

Bobby grabs the boy by the arm and pulls him close. He holds him so close that he can feel his rapid heartbeat. Sam pulls away sooner than what Bobby would have wanted but allowed him. The two of them looked back at the two boys in the floor to see Dean asleep on Castiel's shoulder and Cas still mumbling something to him.

"It's not your fault," Bobby says gruffly to Sam wishing he could make him believe that. Sam just shakes his head and walks into the other room with Gabriel, who has been strangely quiet. The boy hasn't been this quiet since the first week he had lived with him.

Sighing, because he knows there is no way he is going to be able to fix all of them at one time, but he was going to try. One by one. He walks over to where Castiel is still cradling Dean. His heart hurt because all of his boys had been through so much at such a young age. No one should have to go through what they have; even Bobby's father wasn't as cruel as the boys' parents these boys had been given.

"I'm sorry," a small voice comes from Dean, who had just woke up. That alone worried Bobby because even as a small child he had always spoken with a strong voice.

"I'm the one who should be sorry, Dean. You have done nothing wrong." The boy looked up at the man with those shocking green eyes cautiously as if he still doesn't believe that he won't hurt him. To be honest, anything that broke Bobby more than anything else this kid had done.

Bobby lowers himself on the ground and sits down a few feet away from the two boys. He looks at Dean and wonders what all John could have done to him. Dean took after his mother and got her pretty features. Bobby always thought that maybe John would come around because of that John would possibly favor him a little. But, now, it was obvious the opposite happened.

"When did this start?" Bobby tried to keep calm as he asks the boy and keep the anger out of his voice, but he failed even to himself. Dean shies away a bit but still opens his mouth to answer.

"What part of it," Dean asks timidly. His voice keeps getting rougher the more he uses it showing that he has spent a lot of time screaming recently. That or it was permanent damage to his vocal cords.

"The beginning, Dean, the first time he ever laid a finger on you. Mentally or physically."

"Right after mom died." He says looking down at his hands. He obviously didn't want to talk about it, but he was talking so Bobby just listened to what he had to say. "At first, he would get really drunk and just say some things to me, but it was never too serious. Then, as time went on, he would throw a punch or two, but only on really bad days. But then again, as I said before, it wasn't too serious. Things just kept progressing, as I got older. Food became more and more scarce, bruises the new normal, and then on bad weeks, he would lock me up. Then one day he decided that, that..." Dean trails off and stares into space as his breathing accelerates.
