3rd POV
The rest of the day ran rather smoothly for the boys. They did not get up from the couch, nor did they move away from each other. If anything, they moved closer. The two found comfort in the other's presence. This is mainly due to the other being able to relate to the other in some form or fashion. Dean was at ease, which was a rare occurrence, and Castiel's mind was not running as quickly as it had before. The two were calm. Even when Bobby came down the stairs, neither of the boys moved. The exhaustion of anything that had occurred before sitting on the couch had rendered them both into a state of a comatose type state.
This had particularly surprised Bobby. He had never, in all his years, seen either of the two boys more relaxed than they were sitting together. He stayed quiet, though, and watched as the two slowly inched closer to the other. It was like their bodies craved the closeness of the other, but neither had registered it psychologically. Bobby was not sure what this meant, but he was happy that the two had someone they trusted. Even if it was happening subconsciously.
Sam P.O.V.
Something was different, and Sam did not know what it was. He had left the house after speaking with his brother and that is when it all felt wrong. His class schedule was off. The usual smell of the high school was wrong. His friend were too quiet or too loud. Even the way his favorite jeans fit him, it was all wrong. It clouded his normally clear mind. It bothered him to the core. He could almost feel the world tilting too far on its axis, ready to spin out of control into oblivion. As the day progressed, the feeling did not leave the poor boy. The feeling only got stronger, to the point that Sam almost screamed. The intense feeling left him unable to function properly.
The second the last bell rang, Sam bolted for the exit. He could not seem to get out of the place fast enough. With a sense of dread, he made his way to the park. No one came to the park after an accident that nearly killed one of the kids playing on the slides years ago. This made the area perfect for someone who needed to clear their mind. Sam found himself here more often than he would like to admit. The secluded area gave him a sense of security that he did not understand, but he never questioned it.
Sitting on the old bench under an old maple tree, Sam placed his head in his hands and just breathed. In and out... In and out. He repeated the mantra in his head over and over again. He just couldn't figure out what was causing this breakdown he was having. He kept running over the past few days. For some reason, he couldn't understand why it was all just hitting. It was too much. Too much...
Gabriel P.O.V.
Gabriel was not sure what to do. The reality of everything was hitting his new, but dear, friend and he was not sure what to do. Normally, when this happened with his older brother, he would run. It is not something he is proud of, but he had been young and scared. Now, having promised himself, and his brother, that he would help Sam, he had no idea what to do. He just wanted to be able to snap his fingers and create an alternate reality that was kinder to the two of them.
Since he knew that last hope of his was unlikely to come true, Gabriel decided that it was time to face his own fears. He followed Sam after school to an old park. Surprisingly, it was the same one he had spent countless hours when he was too scared to go home. Leaving this thought for another time, he approached the boy sitting on the old bench. He could hear him mumbling to himself, but he couldn't make out the words.
"Sam?" Gabriel asked tentatively.
He watched as Sam almost jumped out of his skin. It broke the tense air that had been surrounding the two of them the whole day. Gabriel could not hold in his laughter. Even when Sam claimed it was not funny, it only made him laugh harder. Soon he heard Sam begin laughing with him. The two of them found themselves on the ground, unable to catch their breath, and holding their sides, laughing uncontrollably.
Finally, after a good ten minutes, the two had contained themselves enough to at least sit down on the bench. The two were leaning on each other, trying to calm down after their little episode, letting a giggle escape every now and again. Gabriel was happy to see his friend so calm after watching him slowly breakdown throughout the school day. He just wanted his friend to be happy. He knew whatever it was bothering him was still an issue, but the moment was too good to break.
"Why are you here?" Sam asked breaking the air Gabriel had been clinging to so tightly.
"You seemed stressed, I was worried." Gabriel decided that honesty was the best way to go. He did not want his uncertainty to get in the way of his friend feeling better, or worse, ruin their friendship.
"Life was just hitting hard today," was Sam's lame excuse.
Gabriel was having none of that. He was smarter than he let on. He knew what Sam was going through, and he did not want him to go through it alone as he had. He threw his arm around Sam making him look at him. "Life does that sometimes, and that is okay. Just remember I got you when it gets tough."
Sam smiled at him which was enough for Gabriel at the moment. He knew eventually he would have to confront the boy on what he was feeling, but he knew that neither of them were ready for that. The two of them decided to go back to Bobby's. Nothing was really right for either of them, and it would not be for a while, but at the moment everything was perfectly fine.
That is until they got home.....
I hope you all enjoy this update. I know it is probably not what y'all were hoping for, but I will try to make the next chapter better. Please leave comments if I confuse anyone on what I am rambling about. Also sorry about this chapter also being slightly sad. I was listening to "Hold Me" by Janine and that song just gets me.
Anyway, thank you for reading the book (even if I never update).
