Ellen POV
Since Bobby had called her for help with the boys, Ellen had been stressed. She knew that the boys needed someone in their lives that was going to be gentler than Bobby was because let's face it, Bobby was not the most gentle person on the Earth. She tried to come over at least once a week to check in with the boys, but she also had her daughter at home.
Since her husband had passed years back, Jo became the most stubborn person she had ever had to live with. So when her daughter started asking questions as to where she went once a week, she wasn't able to just brush off the question easily. She didn't want Jo to know who she was going to see or what she was currently dealing with because it was rather gruesome and scary. She didn't want her daughter to be exposed to any of that so soon. None of the boys had had that luxury and she was going to be damned before she put Joe in a situation she wasn't ready to handle. However, despite her constantly brushing it off and arguing that it was something that Joe didn't need to be involved in, she found herself at the doorstep of Bobby's with her daughter at her side.
"Don't make loud noises when we are inside and try not to ask too many questions," Ellen whispered to Jo. She knew she should have gone over this in the car, but Jo had immediately turned on the music and was in a good mood. She didn't want to ruin that too quickly.
"Why?" Jo questioned looking at her mother like she was crazy.
"You will understand when we get inside. Just don't go poking around too much, this family has been through enough."
With that, Ellen knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer the door. She could feel Jo fidgeting beside her, obviously nervous as to what was happening.
Much to Ellen's surprise, Dean answered the door. Most of the time Bobby answered out of precaution that it could be John. The man had been quiet for too long and it makes the two of them anxious for good reasons.
"Ellen," Dean muttered and moved out of the way hanging his head down. The boy was rather quiet today. Normally he would great her with a hug, but then again, there were days where he would slip back into old habits and become more reserved. She and Bobby learned rather quickly it was best not to comment on it because both boys, not just Dean, would shrink back and apologize repeatedly.
"Dean," Ellen started as she entered the house with Joe following, "this is Jo, my daughter."
"Hi," Dean mumbled before turning and walking back to the kitchen where Ellen was almost sure Castiel was. On these days the two of them tended to stay together more than others.
"Why is he like that," Jo asked quietly before they started to walk.
"I'll explain after, just be sure not to pry, okay?"
Jo just nodded and followed Ellen into the kitchen. Just like she had guessed, Dean was seated beside Castiel but had moved his chair so that their shoulders were touching. She smiled slightly because just a month or so ago, Dean would rather be stuck in a burning building than allow someone to touch him.
"Who's she?" A voice came from behind them and the two of them and everyone else to turn around to find Sam and Gabriel.
"She is my daughter, Jo. She wanted to meet you all."
"Welp, I'm Gabriel," he pointed at himself then at Sam, "and this is Sam."
With that said they made their way to the table and sat in the empty chairs. Bobby came into the room soon with the food. He didn't say anything about Jo's presence which kind of surprised Ellen, but at the same time she understood that he didn't want to make a big deal about anything. Even if the people in the room were close to mentally stable, any little thing could throw away all the progress that had been made over the last month and a half. Ellen looked over at Jo to see her eyebrows furrows and was obviously trying to figure out what was going on and why everyone in the room seemed to be walking on eggshells. Ellen knew that when they left that she would be answering a lot of questions. She didn't mind though, she saw this as more of opportunity to push Dean and Cas to make other friends. The two leaned heavily on each other and their other friend, Charlie. And to be honest, Ellen worried about her as well. It was a lot to take in and understand. Especially when you find out what was actually going on in the home that your best friend lived in for years. Only to later find out that your other friend had suffered a similar past. She made a mental note to talk to the girl the next time she saw her and make sure she was doing alright.
"I'm Jo," her daughter's voice broke the tense silence that had settled over the table.
"Hi, Jo," Ellen was surprised that the voice came from Castiel. Granted it was soft, but he still spoke. He was normally the quieter of the two, between him and Dean, and less bold. Then again, when it came to Dean being quiet and skittish, he did step up and play that role for the two of them. "I'm Castiel, but you can call me Cas if you want."
Silence fell over the table again, but this time it was not as tense and allowed others to begin conversations. Ellen couldn't stop the smile that spread across her face when she saw that everyone was joining in, even if it was just a couple words here and there, it was a sign of progress that they had not seen before.
After dinner was done, all the kids left the room and went to their rooms leaving Bobby and Ellen alone in the kitchen. She looked over to see that he was frowning at the table as if it would answer all the questions he had.
"What is it, Bobby?"
He looked up at Ellen and she could see that something was terribly wrong. She almost didn't want to know what it was, but by the looks of the man in front of her, she was going to have to listen anyway.
"He found 'em, Ellen."
"Who?" Ellen knew who it had found them, but she didn't want to accept it. She could only hope that she was wrong.
"John," Bobby sighed and sat forward and put his face in his hands. "I got a letter in the mail from him today and he's pissed, Ellen."
Ellen just looked at the man and sat back in her chair. She had no idea what they were going to do about the ex-marine coming for the boys, but she did know they couldn't let him get to them because there was no way to imagine what he could do.
