The next morning after the in-home care provider arrived I headed over to the hospital to visit Grace. If she was going to be a part of this I was going to lay down some hard rules.

"Hi, I'm here to see Grace." I said to the woman at the front desk.

She grabbed a folder and flipped through it before sending me to the visiting room to wait. Five minutes had passed before she came in, a shocked expression on her face.

"Yes, I know, I'm just as shocked, if not more, to be here." I stated before gesturing for her to sit down.

"What do you want?" She asked me in a small dreary voice.

"I'm here because you not only owe me, but you owe Ellie. The hospital messed up, she is not dead, infact she finally came out of her coma and was stable enough for me to take her home and bring in private doctors and nurses to take care of her."

"She's alive." Grace said more to herself than me.

After a moment or two her devil eyes flickered up to meet mine again. "Does she still hate me for everything I've done? I mean, I know she does, after all I betrayed her in the worst of ways but, has she mentioned me at all?" She asked, slightly leaning forward in her seat.

"That's what I've come to talk to you about. She sustained some brain injuries that, despite her recovery so far, has left her with memory problems. Some things she remembers, others she doesn't. Like you, the last thing she remembers is that you two were the best of friends. Everything that you have done, she doesn't remember. For how long, I don't know, but at this moment she needs some familiarity and stability in her life to keep her progressing."

"Her parents, they are closer to her than me. I can't ever look her in the eye knowing that she doesn't know that I betrayed her the way I did."

I harshly slammed my hand on the arm of the small sofa. "Her parents died on their way to see her after the crash. She doesn't know, nor does she know that she was pregnant and had a son who-" my voice trailed off, not wanting to open that again.

"She is asking for you, she wants you at her side, you owe her that much. Actually, you practically owe her your life. She is lucky to even be alive.

"But there will be rules. First, you will not talk about ANYTHING about her parents or our son. When I feel the time is right, and she can handle it, I will let her know, but right now, depression could set her back far enough to kill her. She needs to be a decent head space to do what she needs to do in order to continue healing.

"Second, any of your betrayals will not be discussed, mentioned or anything of the sort. Third, whatever she wants, within the guidelines of my rules, you will give her.

"Fourth, if anything at all happens to her... I shouldn't even have to finish that sentence, use your imagination. Fifth, because it will come up, when she asks why you tried to kill yourself you tell her that you and your parents had a falling out because you got pregnant by someone they didn't approve of. Yes, I'm talking about Jeffery, he by the way, has expressed his unfaltering love for you and intends to make the relationship work and is very happy about the baby.

"Sixth, there will be cameras installed throughout the house, speakers too, so anything that goes on I will see or hear. If you try to break any of these rules I will know and my security team will intervene and toss you out. Now, do you have a problem with any of these rules?" I finished, my voice full of authority.

She slowly shook her head. "I'll do it for Ellie."

"Good, now that, that is taken care of. I'll be back shortly, tomorrow to be precise with Ellie. She wants to visit you." I said before rising to my feet. "Do well to make sure you get out of here, but no rush." I said before turning and walking from the room.
