Without You

I decided because the last chapter is basically just the oneshot I had already posted I'd put another chapter up tonight. So after a long eight weeks and two weeks earlier than expected we got the go ahead to bring our baby girl home! Updates will probably be a bit more regular next week once we've got into a routine.

'Why don't I ask the guys to leave and we can have a chat? I know we're not really close and I know there are plenty of other people you'd rather speak to but I'm here if you need someone and I can tell those two to get lost for an hour or so.' Sophie suggests placing the pregnancy test on the edge of the sink.

'Are you sure?' Demi asks quietly and Sophie nods her head.

'Of course.' Sophie replies.

'I'd really appreciate that.' Demi says causing Sophie to smile slightly.

'I'll go get rid of those two... Just come down when you're ready.' Sophie replies smiling. Demi waits until she hears the front door close before she makes her way downstairs to find Sophie cleaning away the food.

'Hey, do you want me to make you some toast or something? I figured the smell of the pizza was making you sick.' Sophie says causing Demi to smile slightly.

'I'm okay for now.' Demi replies.

'Have you told Wilmer about the baby?' Sophie asks as they make their way out to the living room and sit down.

'No. I was going to tell him and then he sprung the whole divorce shit on me. I don't want him to stay with me just because I'm pregnant.' Demi replies.

'Have you decided what you're going to do?' Sophie asks.

'No; I just-I've always wanted to be a mom but I don't want to do this on my own. What if I can't cope?' Demi says.

'You wouldn't be on your own, Demi. There are so many people whole love you and I know your family don't live close by but you've got us and you've got Mike and Kelsey... No one would let you go through this on your own. Do you think Wilmer would want to be involved?' Sophie asks.

'I don't know. I feel like I don't even know who he is anymore.' Demi admits.

'It's entirely your decision then, Demi. No one is going to judge you; it's a bit of a crappy situation you're in.' Sophie says causing Demi to sigh.

'I don't want my baby to come from a broken home but I also don't know if I want to go through with an abortion; I don't know if I could go through with an abortion.' Demi replies.

'You've got time to think things over, don't you?' Sophie says and Demi nods her head.

'I guess.' She replies.

'She okay?' Joe asks glancing down at Demi who's curled up on the sofa with a blanket covering her.

'She's devastated. Things are a lot more complicated than she told you two.' Sophie replies resting her head against Joe's chest as he wraps his arms around her waist.

'What do you mean?' Nick asks.

'It's not my place to tell you; when she's ready she'll let you know.' Sophie replies.

'He didn't hit her, did he?' Nick asks and Sophie shakes her head.

'No. I don't think she should be on her own though.' Sophie replies.

'I'll stay overnight with her.' Nick says.

'There's some pasta in the fridge that she might want to heat up later because she didn't eat much earlier.' Sophie replies.

'Okay.' Nick says.

'Phone us if you need anything.' Joe says and Nick nods his head.

'I will.' He replies; he watches as Joe and Sophie leave before sitting down on the edge of the sofa.

'Oh Demi, what are we going to do with you.' He says and she groans slightly.

'Wil...' She mumbles sleepily.

'Wilmer isn't here, Dems. It's just me.'  He says causing her to sigh.

'Wilmer isn't here.' She repeats. Leaning down he wipes a single tear from her cheek and moves the blanket further over her.

'C-Can you stay tonight?' She asks opening her eyes and glancing up at him.

'Of course I can.' He replies. Sitting up she slides towards him and rests her head against his shoulder.

'You'll be okay, Dems. Maybe not today and maybe not even next month but you will be okay.' He says causing her to sigh.

'It doesn't feel like it.' She says and he nods his head.

'I know it doesn't right now but you're strong and you will get through this.' He replies wrapping his arm around her as she settles into his side.

'Do you want to watch a movie or something?' He asks.

'Nothing soppy.' She replies causing him to smile.

'X-Men?' He suggests and she nods her head.

'Sounds good.' She says quietly. He sets the movie up and she subconsciously rests her hand against her stomach.

'I know you're not going to tell me what's wrong with her but Demi will be okay, right?' Joe asks as he reaches across to take hold of Sophie's hand.

'She will be but she's going to need a strong support system around her for a while.' Sophie replies.

'I can't believe he'd just walk out on her like that; I thought he loved her.' Joe says and Sophie shakes her head.

'She's devastated, Joe. I don't know how she would get through this if it wasn't for-' Sophie begins before stopping abruptly.

'If it wasn't for what?' He asks and she shakes her head.

'I can't tell you.' She replies quietly.
