Without You

twenty-one.

'How are you doing?' Demi asks as she makes her way into the hospital room where Wilmer is now sitting up on the bed.

'Good. They've said I'll probably be discharged tomorrow. I had a scan and they see no lasting brain damage.' He replies causing her to smile.

'That's good. Can I?' She asks gesturing to the bed.

'Course.' He replies. He slides over in the bed slightly and moves the covers so Demi can climb in beside him.

'Do you honestly think we can make this work, Wilmer? We're not just prolonging things?' Demi asks curling into his side which isn't injured.

'I'm can't promise we'll be fine but we made it this far, Dems. I don't see why can't work this out and be absolutely fine.' He replies kissing the top of her head.

'I don't want our baby coming from a broken home.' She says and he shakes her head.

'I don't either which is why we need to try. I promise to try harder.' He replies.

'I promise to try as well... I know there has been times where I've pushed you away especially after the miscarriage but I'm sorry.' She says and he shakes his head.

'No more apologises. We can't move forward if we're both still apologising for things that happened in the past can we? Let's focus on the future, on this little one who we'll get to meet soon.' He replies placing his hand on her stomach.

'Soon.' She almost whispers placing her hand over his.

'Have you thought of any names?' He asks and she nods her head.

'I really like names which aren't too popular.' She replies.

'Like what?' He asks.

'Well for a girl I like Primrose, Amelie and Catalina.' She replies.

'And for a boy?' He asks.

'Cohen and Leighton; they're the only ones I've come across anyway.' She replies causing him to smile.

'I like Amelie.' He says and she glances up at him. 

'Maybe once we get home we can buy a baby book and go through the names together? See which ones we like and don't like?' She suggests.

'Sounds like a good idea to me.' He replies running his fingers through the ends of her hair.

'I was also thinking that we could maybe start looking at ideas for the nursery?' She says.

'Yeah. Have you decided where abouts in the house you want the nursery to be?' He asks.

'As near to our room as possible. Baby won't be in there until they start sleeping through the night but I still want it to be close by when we do move him or her to their own room.' She replies and he nods his head.

'I'm going to speak to work and see if they can write me out of the next season so I've got five months at home with you and baby.' He says.

'That will be great. I think I'm going to take a year off. It just makes sense to have one of us at home, you know? I don't want someone else raising my baby and we can afford to have me at home so...' She says and he nods his head.

'That sounds like a good plan. You can always do bits and pieces; I'll be home as much as I can so you don't have to completely stop working if you don't want to.' He replies.

'We should start looking at places in New York when you're better.' She says glancing up at him.

'Yeah, we can certainly do that.' He replies smiling.

'Your wife really shouldn't be on the bed.' The nurse says as she makes her way into the hospital room.

'I know but please don't wake her? She's pregnant and not sleeping very well. I'm absolutely fine with her lying here.' Wilmer replies and the nurse smiles slightly.

'Doctors rounds are in an hour; she'll need to be off the bed by then but for now you can leave her be... Congratulations on the baby, I'm sure you'll both be wonderful parents.' The nurse says and Wilmer nods his head.

'Thank you so much. She'll be off the bed in an hour, I promise.' He replies. Nodding her head the nurse leaves the room and Wilmer glances back down at Demi; her hair has fallen slightly over her face as her hand rests on her stomach. He knows he fucked up when he asked for a divorce but now he is willing to do just about anything to make sure this works for them both.

So I go on holiday on Monday for around a week and I'm not quite sure how much time I'll have to update but I will try my best to update at least a few days while we're away.
