Although the state prosecutor's star witness was killed they decided to proceed with its case against the Romano family. All the Romano's sat in the court room listening to testimony bashing their family. All Anaya could do was hope and pray that the jury believed their attorney's more. It had been 4 hours now and the jury was still out. "What if they say guilty?" Anaya questioned leaning on her mother. "How can you even think that?" Jackson said looking at his older sister. "Because there is a possibility. You have to be realistic, Jax." Anaya said. He rolled his eyes. "This is all her husband's fault." He mumbled to his wife. "Excuse me." Anaya said standing up. He looked at his sister. "Our father is in this bullshit because your husband. He was sloppy and got our father caught up in his shit. Not to mention it was your husbands friend who dragged our family into this mess." Anaya looked up at him realizing that he had been thinking this for a while. "Well I'm glad you finally got that off your chest." Anaya said feeling defeated.

Evie stood with her sister as she watched her uncle yell at her mother. Evie had gained a greater understanding of what her parents had to deal with when they were younger. A couple weeks earlier her mother finally sat her down and told her, her story.

Flashback (Evie)

I stared at my mother in complete shock as she told me everything. She wiped away a stray tear before I pulled her into hug. "I am so sorry mama." I said as she pulled out of the hug. I leaned on her shoulder as she wrapped her arm around me. "I can't change my past, but i have grown from it. That's why I want all of you to enjoy growing up and i want you all to have as many positive memories. I want you all to do whatever your little minds and hearts can think of. But i also want to make sure if you're ever put in a dangerous situation you can handle yourselves. Because whether i like it or not your father and I won't always be there and i hope that the things we've taught you help." I looked down at my mother's arms and legs looking at the faded scars i used to ask her about. "Evie I just want you to know I'm really proud of the woman you're growing into and don't let anything stop you. Nothing." I smiled hugging her again. "I won't."

Evie snapped out her daze when her mom tapped her. "You okay, Evie?" Anaya asked her. Evie nodded her head. "Yeah I'm fine." "The jury's back." She nodded following her mother inside. "In the case of Romano, Johnson, and Thomas v. the State of Texas how do you find?" The jury foreman stood up. "We find Jason Thomas, Hassan Romano, and Giovanni Romano not guilty." Both families let out a sigh of relief while Giovanni, Anaya, her mother and brother waited to hear the verdict on Elijah and Michelangelo's. "On the charges of drug trafficking in the case of Elijah Johnson and Michelangelo how do you find?" Everyone's attention turned to the jury. The room fell silent. "We're dead locked your honor." Anaya chest was racing a mile a minute. "If given more time would you be able to come to a decision?" The judge asked. "No your honor we've tried and we're stuck."

She grabbed her mother's hand as they waited for the judge to talk. "Alright I have no other choice but to declare a mistrial." Anaya watched as several officers led the men out of the court room. "This court thanks you for your service."

Que

I sat in the back of the court room as i listened to the verdict. I was happy that they were found guilty. The court room began to empty out and I sat there for a few minutes before heading out. I walked into the lobby and stopped when Evie looked my way. I looked down as my phone rang seeing it was Milani calling. I looked back up seeing something flash across Evie's before she looked away.

I sighed before answering my phone. "What?" I said harsher than intended. "Damn, well hello to you to." She said with an attitude. "Milani what do you want?" I said already over this conversation. I looked over seeing Giovanni and all the men come out hugging their family. "Jacques!!" I snapped out of my stare hearing Milani voice. "What?" I asked heading to the door.

"Where are you?" she asked. "Milani." I said warning her. "Can you come home? Jordynn and I miss you." She said. "Tell Jordynn I'll be there soon." I said hanging up my phone.

1 year and some months later

I walked out of the bathroom and headed down the hallway to my baby girl's room. "Hey mamas." I said picking her up as she sucked on her fingers. "Jordynn you better be getting dressed." I yelled as i changed Amari. She kicked her legs be difficult as she was when i tried to change her. I shook my head once I finished. I walked to Jordynn's room seeing her dressed but her hair was a mess. "Come here." I said sitting Amari her pillow while i did Jordynn's hair. "Why can't I go?" Jordynn asked.

"Because Jay you're not old enough. Besides you're going to hang out with Mrs. Naya and Gio." She looked up at me once i finished. "I guess that's okay." She said smiling. "Good let's get going."

"Oh my goodness you just keep getting prettier and prettier every time i see you." Mrs. Naya said hugging Jordynn making her giggle. "I got a gold star at school." She said smiling showing off her notebook. "That's so good sweetheart. We have to hang it up." Mrs. Naya said. "Now give me my baby." She said taking Amari from me. She walked off talking to Amari and Jordynn.

I followed them into living room seeing Migos lying on the floor. Quavo came running up to me lying at my feet while Takeoff jumped on me. "I still can't believe yall named your dogs after Migos. Giovanni came in eating an apple. "Blame those two." He said pointing at Mrs. Naya and Claire who came in and went straight to Jordynn and Amari. After staying for another hour i stood up. "We better get going. Jordynn come give me a hug." I said as she ran over hugging me. Claire got up holding Amari and three of us headed to the car.

"Claire behave. I'm not playing with you." Giovanni said. "Don't get down there showing out." He said in a warning tone. "I'm always good daddy." She smiled huge kissing his cheek. "Que watch her." I nodded my head before said our goodbyes once more.

"I'm so excited." Claire said. Her parents let her skip her junior year and she was graduating a year early. Plus, she got an early acceptance into Prairie view. I sighed as we pulled up in front of Milani's place. "Stay in the car." I said. Claire rolled her eyes as Milani came out ready to act a fool. I gathered Amari's things and headed up the walk way.

"Who is that?" She asked trying to peer into my car. "None of your business. "Mhm." She said turning and heading into her home. "So what are you doing this weekend?" she asked taking Amari out her car seat. "Once again that's not ya business." She mugged me rolling her eyes. I leaned over kissing Amari all over face making her squeal and giggle. "I love you mamas. Be good for you mama and I'll see you when i get back, alright." She reached up for and i kissed her fingers. I sat her bag down and headed out the door. "Everything good?" Claire asked. "Yeah." I said pulling off.

"So...?" She trailed off. "So?" I questioned confused. "How do you feel about seeing Evie this weekend?" I was quiet for a minute. I hadn't seen Evie since that day in the courthouse. "I don't know. I guess I'm just going with the flow." I shrugged hitting the highway. "I think you two are ready for eachother now. It's been almost two years and you two have grown a lot. Besides both of yall getting on my nerves with yall little fuckbuddies." I chuckled as she started talking shit about both of us.
