It was the day of our dinner and my entire family was at my papa and Gigi's home. "Giovanni get off of me. You fat ass." I laughed taking pictures of my parents being all lovey dovey. "Give me a kiss first and I'll think about it." "Mommy!!!" Sio said running to help mama. "Get him Sio." We were all dying when Cello came running to help his twin. The door rang and while everyone was laughing i went to answer it.

I opened the door and smiled when i saw Que. "They hopped in the car." I looked behind him to see Tron and William. I giggle waving at them. "Hi guys." They smiled. "Come in." I said stepping to the side. I was about to head back to the living room when Que grabbed my hand pulling me back. I looked at him and he didn't say anything, but the look on his face did. "I promise everything will be fine." "I haven't seen these people since i was kid, not including recently and according to your grandpa our parents have some type of problems with each other."

I sighed pulling him down to my level. "I got your back so calm down. Plus, my girls are here, Des is here we all got you so chill. And anyways my mama and aunties are not going to let anything happen." I said pecking his lips. "Your parents back on good terms?" "Yep now let's go." I said turning pulling him into the living room. "Everyone this Tron and this is William and you all know Jacques."

"Damn." We all looked at auntie Jas. "What?" Uncle Jay said wrapping his arm around her. "He's tall as hell." We all looked at her for a minute before laughing. My mama walked over and hugged Tron then William. "Well it's nice to meet you boys." "Evie I thought you were the oldest." William said confused. I laughed. "Shit who cares. How you doing babygirl?" Ten said licking his lips. Mama, Claire, auntie Jas and Erin and I all hollered with laughter. "That's her mama dumbass." Que said shaking his head. Tron's eyes widened and he looked my mama up down. "Evie your mama fine hell." Tron said making my mama laugh even harder. "Well you know black don't crack." She said flipping her hair. Daddy pulled mama back into his arms. "Oh my god." Mama sighed. "I'm Giovanni Evie's father and those are her uncles Jason, Hassan, and Desmond." My dad spoke. "Giovanni calm down. Always trying to scare somebody." Mama said rolling her eyes.

We were laughing and just having a good time when Mrs. Mama spoke. "So how is your father Jacques?" My smile disappeared almost immediately. "Um how about we change the subject." Evie said. I shook my head. "No it's fine. My dad is in jail." Nonna's smile dropped. "Oh I didn't know I'm sorry." I waved her off. "It's fine. He went to jail trying to provide for my sister and I so I can't be to mad I guess."

"So you have a sister?" Mrs. Erin asked. I smiled. "Yeah she's 5 going on 15." They all laughed. "But she's my everything. I'd do anything for her." The men all glanced at each other nodding their heads. "Dinner is ready." Nonna yelled. We all got up and headed into the dining room. We sat down and said grace then began eating. "Mama can i ask you something?" She smiled nodding her head. "What's up?" "What happened between you and Que's dad?" All the adults stopped mid movement and looked at Evie then at Mrs. Naya.

"What makes you think something happened?" Evie sat her utensils down. "Well one the way everyone just reacted. Two papa threated Que about his father, so what did he do?" Mrs. Naya looked at her father. "Daddy." "Hey i was just making sure we weren't going to have any problems. I don't think any of us could handle repeat of that shit, especially you."

"See that right there who is that? What does that mean? A repeat of what?" Evie questioned. "Evie just drop it." Giovanni said. "But daddy you and mama preach about being honest yet here you two are keeping secrets." "Evie!" Giovanni yelled. "It's not my fault that you two haven't been honest with us. Just tell us the truth." She said crossing her arms. "Evie I think you better chill." I mumbled feeling the rising tension. Mrs. Naya stood up causing silence to consume the room. I felt Evie's body go ridged next to mine.

"Understand this little girl you are a child. The things we do are to make sure you and your brothers and sister are safe. I get that you feeling bold because your little boyfriend is here but please remember who you are talking to. Do I make myself clear?" She asked. Evie sat there quiet. "I said do I make myself clear?" She said raising her voice. "Yes ma'am." Evie mumbled. Mrs. Naya looked at her for a minute before walking out. Giovanni looked into the direction his wife went off in then back at Evie. "We don't talk about somethings from our past because we don't want to relive everything that happened. Your mother manages to stay happy even with all of the shit she had to deal with and disrespect her like this."

"Daddy I didn't mean..." "I don't care what you didn't mean to do. I don't want to hear anything else from you for the rest of the night." He said going after his wife.

Evie

I sat out in the backyard feeling like shit when Que walked outside. "Well this was an interesting reunion." He said taking a seat. "Shut up. I feel awful." "Then why did you bring it up. I didn't ask you to." I sighed. "I feel like they're hiding a huge part their life from me. How can they talk about being honest but yet they're hiding shit." He nodded. "That may be true but I'm sure it for good reason." He said pulling me close to him as my aunt Erin and uncle Hassan came outside. "If you're coming to yell at me don't. I feel bad enough." Uncle Hassan sighed sitting down. "We just wanted to talk, okay?" He said. "Don't interrupt either." We nodded.

"Before Langston and Zay were born your mother was kidnapped and raped by her ex-boyfriend and her former step-brother. Your father was being blackmailed by the two of them to be a rat and spy on all of us." Uncle Hassan said. Que and I stared at them speechless. "I had no idea." "That's because that time in all of our lives, but especially your parents was beyond difficult. Anaya was physically, emotionally, and mentally devastated. Giovanni was lost without your mother; he was all over the place." Aunt Erin said. "That's why we're all so overprotective of yall and why your mama is always smiling and trying to be happy and positive. They went through something most couples would never survive." He said. I wiped a few tears that had slipped.

"Excuse me." I said getting up. "Where you going?" Aunt Erin asked. "To hug mama and daddy." I said heading inside.

I was in shock after finding out my dad was a fucking rat. "Aye!" I looked to Hassan. "My dad..." "Yeah he was." He said with a sigh. "I'm going to let you two talk." Mrs. Erin said. "Why did he do it?" "Andreas, that's the name of the man who was behind all of this. He found out about Chris's parent your grandparents were in so much debt to his family that even if we pitched in it would only make a small dent. He gave you dad two options one: work for him or two give him you." I threw my head back with a dry laugh.

I shook my head standing up. "Look your dad did something stupid, but don't judge him until you get his side." "I don't know. I just need time to think." I said in disbelief.

I finally got home and i was sitting on the couch replaying the events from tonight in my head as i stared at my black tv. "i can't handle this." I said dropping my head in my hands. I sat up looking around the dark empty house. Times like this i hate being in this house alone. My door rang and i sighed as i got up to see who it was. I laughed as i saw all of my friends standing there. "Considering everything that happened tonight we thought we'd come check on you." Will said as Lani, Chelle, and Tron all walked in.

Once they were all in i saw Evie standing there looking down. I grabbed her hand pulling her to me. "I'm sorry about tonight." She mumbled. "I wanted this night to go smooth but I had to open my mouth." I grabbed her chin making her look up at me. "I'm not mad at you. You actually helped me learn somethings about my pops." We stared at each other before i pulled her lips to mine. She moaned into the kiss before pulling away. I smiled when i saw her hands shaking. She pushed me out of the way and went inside. "Annoying tall ass." I heard her say. I laughed as i closed the door.
