Barry paced nervously at the end of the pier waiting for Caitlin to arrive. He had planned out a whole speech to proclaim his love for her so he wouldn't say something stupid in front of her so if he just stuck to his plan then nothing bad will happen and hopefully she will love him back. He hoped. But it didn't make the nerves go away any more than anything else did. This was a waiting game and he hated it. He was more of a finder than a waiter and so standing here awaiting her arrival was not exactly ideal in his state of nerves right now.
It didn't help that he had no idea what her reaction would be. It was a yes or a no, no maybe. A fifty-fifty chance, a flip of a coin and he really didn't like those odds. He wished he had some kind of insight into her mind and her feelings towards him so he could say just the right thing to assure that with no doubt that she would say yes and she would love him back. But he knew as well as any other that that wasn't possible and he had no idea how she felt no matter how much he wanted to know.
She was still a complete mystery to him and she always kept her feelings inside under lock and key and for a while, he had desired to be the key and she has let him in before and that had meant the world to him but he wished she had let him in more often so he knew how she felt more often, specifically how she felt towards him. The slightest hint would be enough but until now nothing she had ever said or shown, at least to him, infers that she wants to be more than friends like he did.
It was certainly a perplexing conundrum and it was one that had been vexing him for quite some time now, he was desperate to find the answer but it always seemed to escape him at the least minute whenever he got too close. And now he was about to get the answer that he had been yearning for but it came at the price of a leap of faith that may or may not pay off. Either way, he would finally find the solution but the solution may not be the answer he was looking for or the one he wanted. And that was a scary thought.
Did he really want to know the answer? Yes.
Would the answer change his feelings for her? No. He would love her no matter what she felt. Nothing could ever change what she meant to him. Nothing.
Will the answer be the one that he desperately hopes it will be? He didn't know. But one thing was for sure: he was about to find out. Whether he liked it or not. It was out of his control now. It was all up to her.
And there she was, Caitlin Snow, in all her glorious beauty, walking towards him looking as nervous as he was. He didn't know why but he was about to find out. She stopped in front of him with a smile and his heart skipped a beat at the sight of it. Man, he was in love.
"Hey," Barry greeted anxiously, managing to produce the most genuine smile he could possibly create in this moment.
"Hey," she replied, glancing at the floor quickly then back up at him. "What is it?" she asked softly.
"Hmmm," Barry stuttered.
"Well, you asked me to meet you here so what did you want to tell me?" she explained with a small comforting smile that gave him a little confidence to voice his feelings.
"Cait, Caitlin. I need to tell you something. About me and you. I- uh... I don't really know how else to say this other than to come straight out with it. I- I... I'm in love with you," he began and as he finished his first sentence he saw the two eyes that he adored go wide and heard her suck in a deep breath. She was surprised and that was what he expected so it wasn't going horribly wrong.
"From the first time I saw you I fell in love with you and ever since then I have been smitten by your beautiful eyes and smile. I didn't know I could feel this way for anyone or anything and I never even imagined in my wildest dreams that I could love someone the way I love you. I never thought I would meet a girl as amazing and wonderful as you. You are the most beautiful person I have ever seen and I think about you all the time. I don't know how else to define how I feel about you other than love. You mean the world to me and you are everything to me,"
