The next day at work was really exhausting . There were so many onerous analysis and reports which Sanyukta had to complete. It was around 3.15 pm , when she boarded her car.
As she looked up at the bright blue sky , Randhir's face flashed in her mind. He looked smart. Though she had met him for the first time , it didn't seem as though she had just met him. In fact she was so comfortable around him that she felt as if she knew him since a long time. She was lost in her thoughts when her trance was broken by the ringtone of her mobile .
"Hello", she chipped answering the call.
"Hello Sanyukta ?", the voice replied.
Her face lit up. She did not know why. It was him. She leaned forward in excitement.
"Randhir!!!", she exclaimed.
There was a long pause . She could hear the person on the other side breathing heavily.
"I think you've got me wrong. I'm Rajveer ", the voice replied with disappointment.
"Raj...Veer ..... ", Sanyukta thought for a while and as the realisation dawned on her , her eyes widened in astonishment.
"I'm sorry.... I ....", she stuttered.
"That is fine. I just called you to apologize. I'm really sorry for the delay. I'm not able to speak to my parents about my dislike. Hence I am delaying the visit to your house too. I will speak to my parents at the right time.", he spoke in a haste.
Sanyukta took a few seconds to gather her thoughts. She was not worried about addressing Veer or Rajveer as Randhir. She did not mind about him being disappointed with her for addressing him with another guy's name. She did not bother about Rajveer getting her wrong. She had turned him down anyways. But why have Randhir's thought gotten into her so much, that she addressed another person as him? Had he been in her thoughts all this while????
"Hello..........", her trance was broken by Rajveer's voice.
"Huh... Yeah ! That is fine. As long as you say a 'No' to your parents, I am fine with anything. Anyways , thanks for the information.", she replied.
"Take care", he let out his words fast and the line went dead.
That evening, Sanyukta had only two orders to deliver. She packed them up neatly. One was from Tanya's friend from Mahima Nagar, while the other was from her colleague which was to be delivered to Mapro Garden. Yoyo took both of them and left.
Yoyo had been returning late from deliveries since last few days . She couldn't reason out why. She shrugged her shoulders as if it was fine until her customers did not complain.
Her mobile rang. It was a call for food order, to add to the number of orders she had got that day."Hello!", she answered the call in her usual voice.
"Hey Sanyukta . Its Randhir ", a familiar voice called out.
This time she couldn't go wrong. It was not just a call to add to the number of orders, but also to add to her worries.
"Hey....", she replied.
"What is your dish of the day??", he asked.
"Uh. Hmm. Nothing in particular. You can place your order"
"Well then , Can I have a serving of Vegetable
Fried Rice ", he asked."Sure, Thanks for the order", she checked her clock. It was 7.10 PM. "Your order will be ready by 7.40 PM", she spoke quickly in an urge to end the conversation.
As she packed the noodles , she checked twice whether there were packets of Tomato and Chilli sauce.
When Randhir came to collect the order, she refrained herself from involving in any conversation with him . She began and ended with a formal smile, with a few professional words in between.
It was almost at 9 in the night, when Randhir called her again. She was hesitant to pick up the call as it was not for an order.
She held her mobile and tapped it restlessly, staring alternatively at the green and the red button.
But to her bad, she accidentally pressed the green.....
"Before you start with your formal 'Hello' , Miss.Chef, let me warn you that you should be careful before you swap orders.", Randhir's energetic voice startled her.
"Sorry?", she asked in confusion .
"I guess, I ordered for a Fried Rice.", she could hear him smile.
"Oh My!!!" , she exclaimed. "I'm so sorry. I gave you noodles. I'm really sorry", she apologized.
"That's fine.... It was the best Noodles I've ever had. It was light, yet so filling. Less oil, loaded with crunchy vegetables. It was extraordinarily DELICIOUS! I'm feeling so good.", he complemented her.
"Thank you", she smiled. Her intention to avoid him disappeared in the magic of his voice .
"But you really have to make up for the mistake", he said .
"Why should I make up for it ? It was your fault . You are responsible for getting me out of my senses", she blurted out disregarding the fact that she could be audible.
"What!!! Excuse me?", Randhir cleared his throat.
"I mean.... I'm Sorry", she got back to her senses and the fact that she was audible. "I should make up for my mistake . It was just because of me. I'm really sorry", she chipped in embarrassment making him laugh his same warm and comforting laugh as if he got her completely.
