She sank on the couch, frantic with worry. Her hands were wringing with sweat...

She was bewildered.

"How could it be?", she spoke to herself aloud.

Vikram's POV

As soon as I entered my house, I looked around and things didn't seem normal. There were certain things which were packed and ready to be sent somewhere. Sanyukta's mom was sitting in the hall along with my mom . She was crying over something. Her eyes were red and filled with tears. Her dad was strolling in the hall discussing something over the phone.

"What's going on here ???", I asked in confusion.

"Vicky !!!!! my son, you have come at the right time . Sorry it was your uncle...... ", her mom paused as my mom signalled her to speak low.

"Your uncle thought..." , she was interrupted again by Sanyukta's dad.

"Yes, I asked Bhabiji , not to inform you . I know you and Sanyukta are in contact. You youngsters think you can take your own decisions and don't think it's necessary to involve your elders in your matters", he chipped furiously looking at me.

"Ignore him, Vicky. He is tensed and worried about the wedding. Anyways you have come at the right time . ", her mom smiled wiping away her tears.

"Why are you crying, Aunty ?", I asked her.

"The groom's mom is unhappy with something and your Uncle is not ready to apologise. He doesn't realise that his daughter's life is more important than his ego. I was pleading him to apologise."

"Groom's family???? What is happening here?" , I asked them in confusion.

"You don't know!!! Didn't Sanyukta tell it to you?" , her mom asked me.

"About what??????"

" The wedding.", my mom replied as cool as she could.

I stood frozen on the spot , struck with utter shock.

"It was a miracle son. ", Sanyukta's mom said. "When they came to our house , we thought that Sanyukta wasn't interested at all"

"WEDDING!!!!", I somehow managed to get the word out of my throat.

"Yes son. When they came here , they had told us that they would be visiting us again along with their son. We were waiting for Sanyukta and Rajveer to meet. In the meantime, we visited their house and Sanyukta's dad, through one of his friend, made sure that the groom and his family were good and it was safe to get her married to him . We had already spoken to a Priest and planned to fix their engagement on August 30, if Sanyukta accepted the proposal.", she continued .

"A few weeks later , we received a call from Rajveer . We thought that he called to inform us about his visit. But to our surprise, he told us that he had spoken to Sanyukta , who asked him to proceed with the wedding as soon as possible. He himself was not sure what made her say so. Probably , she liked him a lot and she was too shy to express her liking directly to us . Rajveer and his family gave us an idea about fixing the wedding on the engagement date itself."

"But Aunty, you should have at least confirmed it with Sanyukta before proceeding further ", I chipped in disbelief thinking how could they believe an unknown person.

"Yes son, we already confirmed it with her .
Me and your uncle were equally shocked. When we called up Sanyukta , I couldn't control my tears of joy. Your uncle asked her several times if she was okay with it . And only upon her confirmation, we started with the proceedings. In fact even I spoke about this to Sanyukta . She was completely fine with everything."

I was appalled, flabbergasted and horrified. I felt as if the ground beneath swept off my feet. I couldn't let this happen. I couldn't let anybody snatch her away from me . I had to do something. I had to talk to Sanyukta about it . May be we can together convince her parents and call off the wedding..

I took the next available bus and came to Bangalore...

End of Vikram's POV

"Sanyukta, what is all this?? You told me everything was cancelled while your parents are telling me that it was all done after your confirmation. I don't understand. " , Vikram asked.

Sanyukta couldn't imagine what was happening. Rajveer had played the worst game, out smarting her.

"I misinterpreted my mom's tears of joy to be that of sorrow. I could just make out that she was crying over the phone due to her shaky voice . My dad asked me several times, if I really go with what Rajveer had told them. I told him a yes, because I thought..", she paused at the word thought.

That was the worst assumption she had ever made.

"... that was because, I thought Rajveer had called off the wedding.", she held her head.
"Rajveer called me up and told me that he called off the wedding. It was my stupidity and my bad that I believed in a stranger. My dad never told me the actual thing. I just thought....", she paused again.

That was her second assumption.

"I just thought my dad too was confirming with me about calling it off.", she spoke in a voice shaky.

She could now recollect, why her mom insisted on being there on 20th. The part which she left unattended in one of the previous conversations, in an attempt to save the glasses which were stacked. The way she just nodded to all that her mom told with a monotonous 'hmmm', thinking about Randhir and how she could make her parents like him. That was when she had missed what her mom spoke. Everything made sense to her now .

"Oh Goddddd!!!!", she uttered in dismay .

She was in trouble. The Communication gap and mammoth sized wrong assumptions have led to a huge chaos. She covered her face not knowing what to do .

"Sanyukta!!! Call your office and take an off for a few days . We will go to Hyderabad and try our best to set things right ." he moved closer and tried to console her.

"Vicky , I have much more to tell you .", she paused for a while and continued.
"Stopping the wedding alone will not set things right . Not just this one, but I'll never be interested in any wedding that my parents would plan for me in future."

'Had she decided she doesn't need one?', Vikram was intrigued.

"But why?", he asked with a frown .

"I am in love with someone , Vicky. His name is Randhir ", she spilled .

Vikram felt his blood rushing to his head. He was completely shattered by her words. It came in as a huge blow to him. He could not handle the distress. He did not wish for this. He tried hard to get a transfer from Noida , just to bear one shock after the other.

Something was terribly wrong with him. He was not sure why things did not work out for him. He sat, panting heavily, as Sanyukta slowly unfolded about Randhir and their relationship.
