"Can you please turn on the map?", Randhir asked Sanyukta, to which she nodded and directed him. After driving for about fifteen minutes, she told him that they had to go straight for the next 1.5 kms and then take a right turn.
As Randhir looked straight through storm of vehicles, Sanyukta looked at him. She was not sure how long she had been looking at him. She came back to her senses, when Randhir turned to look at her.
"Don't look at me like that ", he said .
She was startled.
"It's making it difficult for me to concentrate on driving .", he smiled. "Ummm... So where are we........Errrrr....we are supposed to take a right, is it the coming one?", Randhir asked pointing to the next right.
"Oops.", Sanyukta said it loud. "We've missed it ."
Randhir slowed the car and tried to reverse it. Just then he felt the car hit something followed by a loud thud sound.
"Oh my God.", Randhir banged the steering.
"What happened?", Sanyukta asked in panic.
"I've hit a vehicle that was parked behind. It had a 'no-parking' sign. So I just watched only for the moving vehicles.", he shook his head.
"I'm so sorry. I should have told you about the right turn well ahead.", Sanyukta replied.
"That's ok. Just be seated in the car. I'll be right back." ,Randhir came out of the car, to check on the vehicle. It was a bike. The damage was not bad. In fact his car had bigger scratches. The bike's mud guard was bent with a few dents here and there.
The area people had gathered around . The bike's owner, who was standing at the nearby shop, rushed to the scene and started inspecting his bike.
Randhir looked at his watch. It was already 8.30 A.M.
"Sorry Sir." Randhir apologised.
"Sorry for what? Park your vehicle there.", the bike's owner pointed towards a corner. "You are not moving until you fix it" , the guy snarled pointing his bike.
Randhir looked at his watch and then at the brawny arms of the guy. He decided to tackle with the former. He looked at his watch again. They had less than an hour to reach there. The bike could never be fixed within that, he thought.
Sanyukta peeped out of the window, trying to see what was going on.
"Saaar please saar, let us go !", she heard him say.
As she saw him pleading to the guy, she felt sorry for him. She bit her lip and shook her head. He spoke a few more words mixing kannada and English, every time showing his watch. He was doing it for her, she realized.
All of a sudden she saw Randhir plunging 2 two thousand rupee notes in his hand and then he came rushing back towards the car.
"I hope it's not too late. We will still make it in time.", Randhir smiled.
She looked at him with astonishment.
"Those damages were not worth four thousand bucks." , she spoke in dismay.
"That's ok. I don't want to put you into more hassle", he smiled.
She looked at him stunned.
"At this moment it is just the competition that is important", he continued as she still looked at him.
"Madam!!! let's not miss the right turn this time.", he smiled.
