TYRONE
Never Bite The Hand That Fed You.

One month. Four weeks. Thirty days. Seven hundred and twenty hours. That's how long I had been in jail for. I was not amused. It had also been how long I hadn't seen my kids, my grandkids and my wife. These are the things people take for granted. I never did, that's why we never worked Sundays. Yet I was still taken from them all. What makes it worse is that ever since I was ten and started living this lifestyle I have never been caught. Been chased by police, been shot at, been in fights, had my house under attack by over one hundred men. But I had never been to jail. I been arrested but no further action was the end result.

Now here I sit in prison because I was set up. Not only was I set up, but I was set up by people who I classed as my friends, family even. Terrence and Lisa. They were behind this. When they disappeared they started working for a bent copper. When Tyrell told me everything that was in that box I almost flipped the table.

Why did I not read it earlier?

I know why. I had a feeling that box was nothing but bad news and I was right. It's like people don't know how to be loyal anymore. That's in my blood.

As our motto goes: Royal By Name, Loyal By Blood. I just don't understand why after so long Terrence and Lisa would turn on us. When everything was handed over to me they came up with me. They ran half of my family's organisation. They had more money than sense. So why would they still feel the need to put me in here? It never made any sense.

But I will tell you why. Terrence is a greedy man who wants it all to himself. In addition to that I found out something else shocking. West and Terrence are blood brothers. Same parents. All these years and I never knew that. They don't really resemble and West treated me more like a brother than he ever did Terrence. Maybe another reason Terrence put me in here.

But what really stung me was that Maine is their son. Terrence and Lisa are the parents of Maine and his siblings. He claims he never knew his parents and I believed him. I'm not so sure now. He is very, very comfortable right now. He runs half my business AND has got my daughter pregnant. But there is a part of me that believes he's none the wiser.

Now here comes my doubts about West. He is the middle man in all this. He knew Maine was his brother's son; he knew I knew Terrence, yet he never once mentioned that was Terrence and Lisa's son. WHY? I had so many unanswered questions. This was why I couldn't wait for Tanayah and Maine to get here. I know a liar a mile off. So far he has always told the truth.

"ROYAL" the prison guard called to me.

They were here. As I walked out into the visiting area there they stood. I smiled as I saw the bump growing on my daughter. I hugged them both and we sat down.

"Pops. We gon get you outta here. Tony is rubbish I'm going to fire him and get someone else." I smirked.

Typical Tanayah she's so impatient she will want to get rid of you if you don't work at her pace.

"No. You will not fire Tony. He's doing an excellent job. We're gonna let it go to court because they have no leg to stand on."

"I miss you and mom. Y'all ain't here to see the baby grow. I've just gone five months now. Going to find out the sex next week."

"Wow you quite big for five months baby girl."

"I know but I think it's because I'm small and it's my first time. That's why."

I nodded. I didn't want to get straight down to business but time wasn't exactly on our side.

"I got a question for y'all. Tanayah you first.

Right now. Are you happy?" I asked her.

I saw her eyes dart from side to side, which I knew meant she was going to lie.

"Yes, yes I am." She answered.

"Second question. Are you looking forward to being a mum?" She looked at me with such happiness in her eyes and smiled.

"Yeah I can't wait." I looked at her and smiled.

This is how you know when someone tells the truth ask them two questions and see different responses. I then turned to Maine.

"You had sex with my daughter this morning?" I asked Maine.

"POPS!!" Tanayah said shocked.

"Answer the question Maine."

"Nah." I looked at him and knew he was lying.

That was the only thing I reckon he would have lied about now for the next question.

"The two people that went missing...Terrence and Lisa...you took over their spot. Did you know they were your parents?"

I saw the confusion and also what look like shock in his facial expression.

"No. I never heard of them. West just said there was a potential spot for me so I should go for it. So I did."

I looked at Maine the whole time he spoke if he was lying he was a damn good liar. I actually believed him.

"Wait, pops. Uncle Terrence and Aunt Lisa are Romaine's parents? That can't be right." Tanayah spoke up.

"Do not call them Uncle and Aunt. They lost those rights..." I said to my daughter. "...Your dad and West are blood brothers...same parents..." I informed Maine. "...the reason why me and my wife are in jail now is because of your parents. I believe you when you say you don't know them but there's still a lot at risk. Now we are in jail, chances are they will resurface and try to take over my organisation by any means necessary. They are working for a bent cop. They WILL come back for their spot at least. The question is how will you react? No matter what; your mother is your mother. The first time you see her you are either gonna hate her or love her. If you love her you may very well fall for whatever plan she brings your way. This is where things will get sticky. My family will fight for what is theirs and will kill if necessary. You're not only with my daughter but are about to have a child together. On top of that you also run half of my business. Although I believe you knew nothing about it, I believe West obviously did.
This then questions why he would bring you in to replace your parents and not let me know who your parents are. It not like I don't know them. But I'ma be real honest with you Maine, other than my family right now I don't trust a soul. Right this minute everyone needs to prove to me why they deserve to live because the way I'm feeling right now I'm gon paint the town red..."

The alarm sounded which meant visiting time was up. "...I'm not saying I'm gon kill you. First thing I told you was I believe you. I just hope whatever happens whilst I'm still in here, that you remain as loyal as you have been so far, because if you don't there's gon' be hell to pay when I get out and believe me I will." I then looked at Tanayah. "Only you, your bro and Maine know all this. This Sunday Tyrell is going to tell the family everything and then let you guys in on the plan. I need you not to stress because it will break my heart if anything happens to you or the baby whilst I'm in here. I also need one more favour. Your mom is refusing ANY visitors and phone calls. Tony is the only exception. I need you to change that I need you to go see her after this weekend so she knows everything. I believe only you can do that Tanayah."

She nodded her head. I could see the tears filling her eyes. I knew this was going to be too much for her to take in but I needed her to play her part and play it well.

We hugged then I was escorted back to my cell. I needed to get out of here. This life was not for me. I needed to get out of here fast.
As I got back to my cell thoughts of killing Terrence raced through my head. I thought that of all people, he would know better. I guess he doesn't.
Never bite the hand that fed you. If he never knew that saying before, he will, come the day I lay my eyes on him.
