I got so mad at him. Dally knew I hated him getting in trouble. Why did he always have to do this.
Everyone was looking at me for a response."That sucks," I said plainly. Everyone looked at me expecting me to be mad but I knew he would get arrested again. "How long till he's out?"
"About 5 weeks. He got caught shoplifting at the liquor store ," Darry said. I just nodded.
I grabbed Pony's hand for support because I felt like I was gonna faint. Eventually I regained my strength, but I didn't let go of his hand. Instead I made sure he followed me upstairs. I was tired and I needed someone by my side.
I hopped into bed and patted the spot next to me for him to lay down.
He layed down next to me and put his arm protectively around my torso. I fell asleep as Pony whispered in my ear; "I think I'm falling for you."

I woke up with Pony's arm still around me. I looked at the window, darkness. It was probably past midnight.
I wiggled out of Pony's tight grip and walked to the bathroom as quietly as possible. I looked in the mirror. My hair looked like a birds nest and I still looked pale. Just my luck.
I walked into the kitchen and got some milk from the ice box. I loved to drink milk before bed when I was little before my mom left. She was the best person. She sang to me, which is why Dally says I have a good voice. She taught me to dance. But that was all ruined by my dad. He beat her to death with a beer bottle. Now he was in jail forever. I never asked about him, never wrote him, I wanted nothing to do with him.
I had just finished my glass of milk when I felt arms snake around my waist. Ponyboy. Only he did that."Hey beautiful," he whispered in my ear.
"Hey"
"The sun's about to rise wanna head up to the roof?" he asked, excitement in his voice. That was something you couldn't get from other greasers. I nodded and we walked outside.
We climbed up to the top of the house and layed down. Well, Pony layed down. I climbed up to the chimney and sat there. I liked the sunrise but the sunset was better.
"So about our 15th birthday." Pony said breaking my train of thought.
"Yeah. I don't know Dally isn't here and my quinceañera won't be the same without my brother," I was Mexican on my mom's side. So I loved to keep her tradition going. Plus I loved being Mexican. And I could always talk to Dally in Spanish, but it was usually yelling. When I got mad I would always yell in Spanish, reflex.
"What's a quinceañera?" He asked obviously confused. Him and the gang always got confused when me and Dally started spouting out Spanish.
"A girl is considered a woman when she is 15 years old. It is a big deal but I hate attention so nothing big. I just wanna spend it with you." It was true I lov-liked Pony a lot.
"Well now we have to do something. You're gonna be a woman," he blurted out.
"No! I don't like the attention. I just want to ignore it."
"Fine, but I'm still getting you a present."
"Fine."
"What the hell are y'all doing up there?!" Darry yelled. We looked down at Darry in nothing but jeans. We cracked up laughing. "Get down from there now 'fore you hurt your selves!"
"How 'bout you get your lazy ass up here!" I shouted back.
"Jazz you know he will. He roofs houses for a living," Pony whispered in my ear. I saw Darry get the ladder.
"Darry I was joking we'll get down," I shouted back. I jumped off the chimney and slid a bit and almost fell. Pony caught just in time. We climbed down and Darry gave us a glare that softened after awhile.
I made waffles for breakfast and eggs. I made Darry his egg sandwich with tomato to go because he was running late. Soda and Steve hopped in the truck with Darry and they left to work.
It was Wednesday. In 3 days me and Pony will be 15 year olds. I can't wait. I just wish Dally could be there.
"Where do you go?" Two-Bit asked.
"What are you talking 'bout Two-Bit?" I asked confused.
"When you zone out. You look like you're not even here. Where do you go?" Two said. Pony nodded along.
"He's right, you know. You just zone out," Pony joined in.
"I don't go anywhere. I just think," I said bluntly.
"Geez, don't get offended, Jazz. I am agreeing with Two over here." Pony said raising his hands in defense.
"Why would you side with Keith?" Two-Bit hated being called Keith.
"Hey! My name is Two-Bit not Keith." Two-Bit said defensibly.
"Let me see your birth certificate Keith," I said in between laughs.
"Lay off." Two-Bit said finally.
I started thinking about what I look like when I do zo-.
"Like that!" Two-Bit yelled. I just got mad and walked upstairs to my room. I liked to think I was real smart too. But me and Pony were so alike we both never used our heads. I had a short temper and didn't like being made fun of. Someone knocked on my door, I ignored it and but on some Elvis. I started to think again.
I didn't realize how late it was till Darry yelled "Dinner!". I looked over at my clock; 8:37. I came to my room at 2:20. I started drawing myself, but I didn't like it so I drew the gang. All of them, even Two-Bit even though I was still mad at him.
I walked downstairs and sat at the table. Darry put a plate of Mac n' Cheese in front of me. It was silent till Steve had to say something.
"What did you draw this time?" He asked. How did he know I drew something?
"How do you know I drew something?" I asked confused.
"We all know when you go upstairs you draw," Soda chimed in. "And there is pencil smudge all over your hand."
"Okay so you guys... know me way too well." I said, "But if you must know I drew you, all of you. But just the seven of y'all."
"Sounds great. Can we see it?" Soda asked.
"No!" I shouted. I didn't like people seeing my drawings. I didn't think I was very good. Pony was the only one who had seen any of my drawings. Though he was oddly quiet right now. He was whispering to Johnny and they seemed to be having a conversation about something.
My outburst ended any and all conversation at the table, except Pony and Johnny's talk.
After dinner we all sat in the living room and watched some Mickey. Two-Bit was on the floor. Steve and Soda were playing Rock-Paper-Scissors over the last piece of cake. Johnny went home. Darry was in his chair reading the paper. And Pony was reading To Kill a Mockingbird. Everything seemed out of place.
Tomorrow I was gonna go visit Dally in the cooler tomorrow. I always went there because I was his only family. I hated how often I had to do this.

Sorry it took me awhile to put this chapter up. I have this thing called a 'Mother' who makes me get off the computer if I've been on it more than 30 minutes. I will post maybe 2 more chapters today before my mom gets home. Remember to watch the sunset.
