"I-" I get cut off by a loud noise downstairs. I take my chance to escape. "Let's go see what happened." I stand up, wipe away the rest of my tears and go downstairs. I and look around the room. "What the hell was the noise?" I ask.
"Steve lost in poker and left, slamming the door," Soda said.
"Everyone knows you cheat Soda," I say. "You have that ace in you're sock."
"Whatever. I won square and not-so fair," Soda says, snapping his fingers in a zig-zag. I swear I'm more mature than him.
"Darry you were right," I say. "You do live with hoodlums." I say quoting his drunken screams from the drunken night.
"It was one night," Darry exclaims. "I was drunk for one night. And now you all hold that against me."
"Darry you never get flat out drunk," Soda says patting Darry on the back. "You're the 'responsible one,'" he say with air quotes.
I get a laugh out of that. We all know how Darry was when he was in high school. He was the life of the party. And always came home drunk, but his parents never really found out.
"If I want my kid brother to tell me who I am I'll ask you," Darry takes a millisecond pause, "kid brother"
I start to laughing. "What's so funny?" Pony asks me. I turn around to see him looking at me confused.
"Your brothers," I say as I stop laughing.
"Are you bipolar or something?" Two-Bit asks. I cock and eyebrow at him. "Just five minutes ago you left like a bawl baby, now you're here laughing at the Curtis brothers."
"I am not bipolar you idiot," I say whacking him upside his giant head. "I'm female."
"There's a difference?" He says smirking. I look at him with the 'Take it Back' face. I would attack him but I feel like it might hurt the babies. "I regret nothing." Two-Bit says, with the worst smile ever.
"If I could I would kick your ass," I say.
"Oh, and why can't you," Darry says looking at me. I look at him like he was the devil. He gives me the look telling me to tell them. We have a bit of an argument over facial expression.
"Can you stop having, like, a telepathic conversation?" Dally said. It was that first thing I had heard him say since I got down here. "Its freaking weird."
"Shut up William," I say using his middle name.
Two-Bit doubled over on the floor laughing. "I forgot about his middle name." I start laughing at it.
"I hate you Nicole," Dallas says using my middle name.
"I am not ashamed," I say crossing my arms over my chest. "I don't have a badass reputation to withhold. How are you gonna stand with 'William' as a middle name?"
"Whatever. We all know you are to much of a goody-two-shoes to hold up the Winston name," Dallas said.
"You have no idea," I mumble under my breath.
"What was that?" Dally was pushing me.
"Nothing." I say innocently. I really have to try to act more innocent when I'm hiding something. I could never be an actress.
"You're hiding something," Dally gets up from where he was sitting and walks up to me. He is quite tall, like Darry but a little shorter. I crane my neck to look up at him. "What is it?"
I look over to Darry for some kind of help, he gives me the 'Tell Them' look again. I look back up at Dally. I pushed him away from me lightly because he was way to close.
