~~~~~~ONE WEEK LATER~~~~~~
I have been staying at Jess' house for a little over a week now. It is 6:43 on Friday September 11th and I'm laying in my room throwing a baseball up and catching it. I stare up at the posters on the ceiling. I find myself zoning out more often.
Jess walks into my room.
"Hey," I say, still staring up at the 'stars'.
"Wanna do something?" she asks sitting down in my black beanbag chair. I bought it at the Goodwill two days ago. "Like, get out of the house? We are always here and I'm already bored."
"I know what you mean. Cabin Fever," I said. "We have been here to long."
"It's been a week. Do we have any homework?"
"Yeah. I'll go get my backpack. We have some for Mr. Wilkinson, his stupid monthly assignments," I say getting up.
I go out to the living room where I, so carelessly, throw my backpack every afternoon. I picked up my backpack and started for the hallway. There was a knock at the door.
"Jess there is someone at the door," I yelled.
"You're right there why don't you get it?" she yelled back.
"It's your house," I said entering the room. She groaned then went to open the door. I sat back on my bed and grabbed my glasses from the night stand.
"Jasmine! It's for you," Jess called. Who could be here for me? I don't think anyone knows I live here.
"Give me a sec." I called back I put on my sandals and looked in the mirror. I was wearing blue shorts and a neon blue cut-off shirt that ended at my navel. I walked down the hall.
"Why the hell would someone come here for me?" I said rounding the corner.
"Why don't you ask him?" Jess said moving out of view. Ponyboy. She walked out passing by me. "Be careful." she whispered. I sent her a playful glare.
I walked over the door. "Come in." I say making way for him to enter. He walks in slowly. "W-What are you doing here?" I stutter without meaning to.
"I came to see you. We haven't talked in over a week," he said. "I'm allowed to see my girlfriend." He looks up and smiles at me. I smile back. I lead him to the couch, and motion for him to sit with me. "How do you like living here? You think you wanna come back anytime soon?"
"I don't know. Jess needs someone to stay with her. And I like staying here with a girl instead of a house full of guys, no offense," I said shrugging. I couldn't look him in the eye, afraid of what I would see.
"Well we're keeping your room the same just in case."
"Can I ask you something?" I looked up at him. He nodded, telling me to continue. "Do you think this relationship is working?"
I looked into his eyes, mistake. He looked like he hadn't slept in days, his eyes looked like I just ran over his dog or something.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean; we never talk, I never see you an-"
I was cut off my his lips on mine. Again, caught off guard. But I didn't want it to end. We stayed like that for awhile, but we had to come up for air. We pulled away at the same time, breathing heavily.
"I take it back," I laugh. He presses his forehead to mine.
"Our relationship is fine," he says. "You wanna do something?"
"Well I need help with homework," I say pulling my head back and give a half smile.
"Oh teacher pick me," he says sarcastically waving his hand in the air.
