"Hey, Morgan?"
"Yes?"
"Can I ask you about Michael?" I questioned, shifting in my chair. We had met for Sunday brunch, a common thing between us. But lately, I hadn't seen much of her. She was always off with Michael.
"Yeah, what's up?" She swiped her platinum blonde hair out of her eyes, a look I could never pull off, but Morgan worked it.
I was always envious of her confidence. Sure, I was confident and loved myself. But Morgan had this aura that followed her, she was confident in every way, not just in her looks. She spoke her mind and did whatever the fuck she wanted, but still maintained respect for others.
To sum it up, she's flawless.
"Are you guys serious?" I started, "like would you say you're official?"
She paused for a moment, pursing her lips and squinting her eyes.
"I guess we haven't discussed it." she stated, before going on, "The thing with Michael and I, neither of us feel like we absolutely need a label, as cheesy as that sounds. I'm completely fine with what we're doing."
"You don't get jealous if he talks to other girls?" I questioned.
"I guess I would be jealous if he did, but I don't think he does. Sometimes I feel like he wants to talk about becoming official, but I just... I'm nervous. Last year, with Aaron and everything, I'm not-"
"It's okay, Morgan. You don't have to explain yourself to me. I know what you mean."
She gave me a soft smile.
I guess there's one thing she isn't confident about. Relationships.
But you couldn't blame the girl. Last year, our junior year, she had a boyfriend named Aaron. They were together all the time. After him pressuring her for a couple months, she finally lost her virginity to him. She told him that she loved him afterwards, and the next day, he ended things. He blocked her number and they haven't spoken since.
I was with her for days after the breakup. She was a wreck, constantly crying and not leaving her room. I guess since then, commitment was hard for her. And honestly, I completely understood.
I mean, I had never had a serious boyfriend but I could somewhat understand.
"Don't just do what you think he wants, okay? Do what you want. Michael's a good guy, he'll understand." I reached out and held her hand on the table as reassurance, "If he likes you like I think he does, he'll want you to put your happiness first."
"Thanks, Em." Morgan wiped her eye with a hand clad in all different kinds of jewelry.
"This is getting depressing," I laughed, grabbing my purse, "let's go to the mall or something."
I set a few dollars down on the table as a tip, and stood.
"I wish I could but I told my mom I'd be home by noon. That big dinner thing with all her buyers is tonight, and she wants me to help get our house ready." Morgan explained.
"Ah, that's okay. See you tomorrow!" I waved goodbye, walking out of the cafe and down the street where I parked.
I was just about to open the door to my car when my phone started ringing.
"Hello?"
"You have to come to the soccer game with me." Alice's voice blared through my phone. I adjusted the volume so I wouldn't have hearing loss.
