"Get in!" I called out the window of my car to Luke, who was parked next to me. It was 3:45, Luke and I planned to get to the school early so we could be alone before she ruined it.
And I definitely wasn't letting her ride in his car. I would drive, and she would sit in the back.
Luke had traded his khakis for some plain black skinny jeans, and I had changed into some snakeskin pants, my favorite new purchase.
"You look so good." Luke stated as he slid into the passenger seat, immediately leaning over to greet me with a kiss.
"Thank you." I still blushed even after the hundreds of compliments he had given me.
"What's our plan?" I immediately asked.
As far as Josslyn knew, we weren't friends. If we chatted like we usually do (minus the flirting), it might throw her off. She'd be onto us. And I was already paranoid about her finding out, because she is the last person that needs to know about us.
"What do you mean? Aren't we just going into the city?" Luke questioned.
"No, I mean with Josslyn. She thinks we aren't friends."
"Well then we'll just act awkward. Pretend we hate each other. The usual." His voice sounded slightly pained. It may hurt him that I want to pretend, but it's what needed to be done.
"I'm sorry." I apologized.
He grasped my hand and turned my head towards his gently.
"Don't apologize. I told you I'd always do whatever your comfortable with. We can pretend as long as you want. I understand." he softly spoke, his eyes not leaving my own.
He had no clue that now it was more important than ever to keep us a secret. I had promised his mom, and I planned to keep it.
"But I want you to know, I'm really starting not to give a fuck about what our parents think."
Before I could reply or process what he was saying, movement next to my car caught my eye. Josslyn had pulled up next to us, an entire ten minutes early. I instinctively pulled my hand away from his and shifted away from him in my seat.
"If she flirts with you, I'm crashing the car." I spoke, milliseconds before she opened the car door.
"Hi!" she enthusiastically said, "I thought Luke was driving."
"Nope." I stated, maybe a little too harshly because I could feel Luke side eyeing me.
"Where are we going first?" I questioned, knowing we had an hour drive ahead of us. This was about to be hell.
"Have you guys heard of Rooftop 760?" Josslyn offered as I pulled out of the school parking lot.
Luke and I exchanged a glance, because Luke's dad, did in fact, own Rooftop 760.
"I think it's booked for the next 6 months." Luke offered, which was the truth. It was impossible to get anything at that venue.
"Dang it." she said before quietly sinking into her seat. She looked ready to pounce on Luke at any moment.
"Care if I play music?" Luke asked me.
"Go ahead." I handed him my phone, which he then unlocked with his own thumbprint as Josslyn watched him like a hawk.
"Woah, how did your phone unlock with his finger print?" she asked, "Did it glitch or something? That makes me nervous for my phone. What if someone steals it and can just unlock it? You should email Apple." Josslyn's words seemed to never end. But at least she wasn't suspicious.
