*Simon's POV*
I began to get this panicked feeling in my chest as I scrolled through Mackenzie's Instagram. What if she leaves me too? I had had this exact same thought with all of my friends after she left. And now it was with Mackenzie. I locked my phone and a ran a hand through my hair as there was a knock on my bedroom door. "Simon! You've got company!" Vik called from the other side. I was quiet, not in the mood to see or talk to anyone as I felt the panic increase. "Simon? It's me." Her voice made me look up at the door from the floor and I took a deep breath. She's going to leave eventually. Don't get attached. "I don't care." I called quietly. She seemed to hear it though because she didn't say anything else.
*Mackenzie's POV*
Vik sighed next to me as I looked at the floor, a hurt feeling gathering in my chest. "Don't take it personally. He's been in a bad mental state for a long time. We all thought he was getting better, because of you." He explained. I looked up at him from my feet. "Because of me?" I asked, raising my eyebrow. He glanced at the door beside us and gestured for me to follow him. He led me into another bedroom that I assumed was his. "He said that you have this way of making him forget about everything. Which is how she made him feel before she left. He's just scared that you'll leave too. He was that way with everyone at first. He pushed everyone away. Even his own family." His voice had saddened a lot from when I first met him downstairs, where he introduced himself as the best member of the group. "Why?" I asked, intrigued to hear more. "To see who cares enough to stay." I looked down at the floor and took a deep breath. I hadn't known Simon long at all but I knew that I didn't want him out of my life just yet. "And I'm not letting him or any of us go through that again. So I'm on his side. If you don't plan on sticking around forever then just leave now." He said bluntly. I looked up at him before I replied. "Forever is a long time." I said quietly. A lot could happen within a single forever. A lot that we had no control over. "Yeah? And it's even longer when you're missing someone."
*Josh's POV*
•••
I stopped in my tracks when I saw a girl sitting outside of Simon's room. When she heard me she looked up from her phone and gave me a weak smile. I glanced at Simon's door and then back at her. "How long have you been sat outside his door?" I asked, scooting towards her. She looked back at her phone and then back up at me. "Three hours." She shrugged. I felt my eyes widen. "Three hours? Why?" I already knew the answer but it seemed hard to believe. Simon pushed her away and she wanted to prove she wasn't going anywhere. It was hard to believe because no one had ever done that. And I knew that Simon wouldn't believe it either. "I want to prove to him that I care." She shrugged. I felt a smile break across my face. "Good. He needs that." I took a seat on the floor a few feet away from her. "I'm Mackenzie." She introduced herself, stretching her arm out to me so I could shake her hand. "I'm Josh." She nodded at me and smiled again. "Do you want anything to drink or anything?" I asked. "If you could point me in the direction of the bathroom that'd be great." "Oh yeah. Right down there last door on the left." She gave me a small smile before standing up. "Thank you." When she was gone I stood up quickly and opened Simon's door. He was sat at his desk editing and turned around quickly. "Oh hey." He gave me a fake smile. "Don't 'oh hey' me. Mackenzie has been sat outside your bedroom door for three hours, man." He slipped his headphones off of his head and looked at me as if he didn't believe what I was saying. "She didn't leave?" He asked. "No she didn't. Because she wants to prove to you that she cares and that she's not leaving." He slowly stood from his chair and ran a hand through his hair. "Well where is she at now?" He asked, looking past me into the hallway. "I'm here." A small voice from behind me made me smile and I moved out of her way. "Mackenzie." Simon said when he saw her. She gave him a small wave and smile. "Bring it in." She said once she realized he was at a loss for words. She opened up her arms and took a few small steps towards him. And when they hugged it was like fireworks came from the warmth in between them. It was obvious that somewhere in both of their hearts there was a space for the other.
