Our Song

"And baby, everything that I have is yours,
You will never go cold or hungry.
I'll be there when you're insecure,
Let you know that you're always lovely.
Girl, 'cause you are,
The only thing that I got right now"

You stared at him, wondering how you could possibly score such a Godly being like him. It's almost impossible, how plain Jane and James Dean could get shot by the same cupid. Life was either making a mockery out of you or you were just that lucky.

"Hello princess," Jay approached you. Heart fluttering at his greeting, you flashed him your sweetest smile.

Snaking his right arm around your waist, he pulled your closer and rested his chin on your head. You closed your eyes as you enjoyed his embrace and listened to the song playing on your phone. It was the song Jay serenaded you with when he first asked you to be his girlfriend, and the song you listened to every time you were at the brink of breaking up with him. The song that reminded you strongly of your love with him. How something as petty as everything else should never allow you the reason to break up with him.

That song was the symbol of your love with him. How both of you got together, how the lyrics matched perfectly to every aspect of your relationship and how you accepted him wholeheartedly as yours.

Pulling out one side of the earpiece from one of your ears, he plugged it into one of his. "Hey! This is our song!" He exclaimed like a little, jolly boy. In response, you nodded your head and smiled sheepishly. The both of you spent the remaining minutes listening to the song and taking in every word of the lyric, reminiscing on your beginning to honeymoon phase.

It was just a year and a half ago, when Jay asked you to be his girlfriend. As he called you up in the middle of the night, 2.26am in the morning to be exact, asking you to come out to the 24 hour ice cream parlour that the both of you frequently visited as friends.

Oblivious to his intent, you head out in your sloppiest outfit; loose plain black tee, worn out grey sweatpants and yellow slippers.

As you reached the parlour, you spotted Jay playing with his guitar, something you don't deem unusual because he loved strumming the guitar randomly and stringing tunes together. Seated by his side, you observed his profile while he was immensely into playing a song whilst singing.

Tunes ringing in your ear, he sang Next To You by Chris Brown. You enjoyed the song a little longer although you were dead curious to know why he asked to meet at such odd hours.

"One day when the sky is falling,
I'll be standing right next to you,
Right next to you.
Nothing will ever come between us,
'Cause I'll be standing right next to you,
Right next to you."

Once he ended his song, he set his guitar aside and smiled at you. At that moment, your heart was pounding rapidly, your stomach was sent into a butterfly frenzy, and your mind was filled with sparkles that not even Tinkerbell could outwin.

"What is the meaning of all this, Jay?" You asked, amused.

Inhaling deeply, he locked eyes with you, took your hands in his, and asked you that one thing you've always longed for, "will you be my girlfriend?" Smiling from ear to ear, you hopped into his embrace and squealed, "yes yes yes!"

Reliving the memories of those time made you feel embarrassed of the way you said yes to being his girlfriend. Countless of times you wished you could go back and change the way you reacted, perhaps accepted him in a more feminine manner, or maybe coolly.

"Reminiscing on our Day 1, babe?" He asked, noticing your dazed look. The song has already ended but you still could not forget every single detail of that day. It was the best day of your life; finally having the person you love the most loving you back the same way.

Nodding, you laid your head on his shoulder. Everything felt right. Being with him, being his lover, his enemy, his friend, his competition, his fears, his world and most importantly, being in love with him.

If he is a mistake, he'll be the best damn mistake you'll ever make. If he is a worry, you'll rather worry all about him than anything else in the world. If the song is to ever leave you with nothing but bitter memories, you'll prefer to dwell on those memories as long as it reminds you of him.

Why? Because you love him. Why Because he loves you. How? Everyone may ask. The song; the symbol of your love.

"I love you, Y/N, very much," he whispered in your ears.

"I love you more, Jay."
