Hey guys this is Danielle. I am so glad you have enjoyed Right by My Side and I appreciate and love all the votes and comments from you, my loyal fanbase!
At the time I am writing this two very important things have changed the world around us; "13 Reasons Why" and the Manchester bombing.
These events have heavily impacted my writing of this book.
"13 Reasons Why"' is the popular Netflix series out now based on the popular teen novel by Jay Asher. At the time of publication, it was renewed for a second season. This novel and series was a major impact on this novel in the sense of high school transitions and drama and all the things teenagers go through.
The Manchester bombing, which occured a week before publication, occured as fans were exiting the Ariana Grande concert that had just ended. Many people died, some are still in critical condition at this time, the Dangerous Woman tour was canceled, and Ariana's public image smeared forever with this horrible tragedy.
I incorporated the trauma of the bombing with Peeta's mindset and flashbacks to the raping. It was a horrible event to endure that no one should ever go through, bombing or raping
Lastly, a lot of readers are asking me why I chose a gay couple and more importantly the Hunger Games characters. First off I love the Hunger Games and the raw, emotional power that resonates from reading Suzanne Collins' famous and timeless book series.
I wanted to infuse that power into this fanfiction. Secondly, Peeta and Cato are so perfect for each other because they are so much alike yet opposite and I love gay people in general so this goes out to all the LGBT community as well.
In closing, I want to thank all the people who have made this possible! First on my list are mtmy best friends Jenna Barrett, Jaden Davis, Cynthia Walker, Stalina Kelley, Shayna Dutton and Star Silver. You guys are the best and you have made me who I am today. I am so glad you are in my life and hopefully always will!
Secondly, I want to give a shout out to the special men in my life who have given me so much to live for and to dream for. My guy best friend Ethan Ellis, my love Josh Hall and Jordon Saylor, the one I cannot live without.
