Chapter 1- Back to Plum Creek

Cato

Hello, I'm Cato Hadley and I live in Plum Creek, a small town where everyone knows everybody. I have friends and an awesome sister and all the money you could ever imagine....but I had never lived life until the day Peeta Mellark walked into my life.

The story isn't over though...it didnt end when Cashmere went to London to obtain the ashes of our mother and father. They now sit in our house above the fireplace. Cashmere and I are now on our own, but we have the ones we love.

But we almost lost them forever.

This part of the story begins when Peeta and I went back to school after Mom and Dad died. The place was pretty normal and boring as usual, save for Ms. Effie Trinket's attempts at trying to give her condolences to me and Cashmere in an annoying way. Like we understand you are the guidance counselor but still!

Peeta and I were living together now, and I had moved a few of my things to his tiny apartment above the bakery he ran by himself because his mom was dead and his deadbeat dad was in jail. I didn't care though. All I wanted was a life with him, because he was the only reason I lived and breathed anymore.

I sat down next to him in Ms. Cresta's class as always. I pulled out my easel and brushes as usual. And nothing came to mind. Nothing.

   This was unusual

   "Cato, what's wrong?" Peeta whispered.
   "I don't....know..." I whispered back.

"Baby why don't you just take it easy?  The last few days have been a nightmare for you."

"Because I have to keep going." I said as class began.

Peeta

I was worried about Cato....it had been three weeks since his parents passed. He wouldnt eat, he wouldn't sleep at all, and I broke all the wine bottles that we had in the kitchen outside in the ditch so he wouldn't becone an alcoholic like my father was. I wasnt gonna lose Cato to anything though, so I decided to go to the only one who knew Cato more than me; his best friend Clove.

Clove had been Cato's best friend since kindergarten. Possibly longer knowing how close their parents were to each other. At first, she had nothing to do with me and now we were really good friends. She too was grieving in her own way, for Cato's parents were like family to her too.

"Hey, Peet" she said as she walked up to me.

   "Hey" I said back.

"You okay?" she asked, a little puzzled.

"Yea, I'm fine. It's Cato that's not." I looked down.

"What's going on? Are you guys okay?" she asked alarmed.

"Yea we are. Hes been acting like this since Cashmere came off the train with the ashes." I replied.

"He will be fine. Knowing Cato, he will get through it in his own way." Clove comforted, putting her arm on my shoulder.

"I can only hope so because 'his own way' is starting to scare me." I said as we parted and I went home.
