Chapter 4 - True Confessions

Cato was the last person I expected in the bakery. What I also did not expect was to say I was glad to see him. It was like we were dating and yet we weren't.

"Hey there, Baker Boy..." Cato quipped.

  I laughed. Cato had a good sense of humor.

   "What are you doing here?" I asked.

   "I came to ask a favor from you." Cato said with a smirky grin.

   "Cato, what do you mean by that? I mean its been our first day and already you and half of the damn school likes me. Like why though?"

  Cato replied " I came to ask you if you wanna...um..."

  "Umm" I whispered.

"You wanna go out with me Friday after school?" Cato blurted out.

I kinda stood back a little. I mean it was only last night this guy was gonna kick my ass and now he's asking me out?

  "I mean if you can't I understand." Cato added.

"Um sure I guess. But I want you to take me slowly. I'm not used to sudden things like this." I answered.
"I understand. Trust me I know what it feels like. I'll see you Friday." Cato said as he started to walk out of the back of the kitchen to the door.

  I began to turn away when suddenly Cato said "Oh and another thing Peeta..."

  "Whats that?" I asked.
"I want to listen to you. I know im a bitch at school but its not who I am personally."

  A tinkle of the bell and out the door he was.

As I walked home from the bakery, I suddenly realized my feelings for Peeta were real and true...I had never been in love before and I wasnt sure if this really was, but I knew Peeta Mellark was going to at least have a friend to talk to.

  My sister Cashmere met me at the sandwich shop as she was walking outside the shop.

  "Cashmere, I need to talk to you." I shouted.

  "Yes, Cato?" she asked.

"I need to talk to you about something personal."

Cashmere licked the balm off her lips and said " What kind of personal are we talking about here?"

"Cashmere, I think I'm in love."

    Her eyes got big and she said "With who?"

    "The new kid, Peeta Mellark."

"Bread Boy?" She asked in shock.

"Yes, and why does everybody call him that?" I snapped.

  "Oh come on Cato...he works in a bakery.  Bread is in his blood. The big deal right now is are you sure you are in love?"

  "Cashmere I honestly dont know anymore. I feel like every time im around him Im happy. Its been the first day of school and already I know and feel so much for him."

"I'm happy for you Cato. He needs someone and I totally think that you two will be very happy."

  "I hope so..." I said as we walked in the house.
