Another day had gone by, and the two were exhausted from walking. They had walked all day, and still there was no sign of the next challenge, but they hadn't stopped yet.
Everything was eerily silent, Anxiety noticed, even more so than the forest usually was. Normally Roman made comments as they walked, and they would bicker even more, or he would be singing Disney songs while Anxiety complained(he wouldn't admit that he was actually glad Roman was filling the silence with something). It was never this quiet.
This unsettling quiet was slowly driving Anxiety mad. His heart beat picked up, the only sound in this scary silence, and he found himself tugging at Roman's sleeve. When the royal turned to look at him he squeaked out his question. "Why haven't you said anything in a while?"
Roman stopped in his walking and turned to face Anxiety, still not saying anything for a while. "Just... thinking." Roman shrugged, pulling his sword from it's sheath and looking down at it. Anxiety took a step away from him worriedly.
"A-About?" Anxiety prompted, taking another step back as Roman took one closer.
"If I'm going to make it out of here," He answered, looking up from his sword to face Anxiety.
"O-Of course we're going to make it out of here. You said so yourself, we both can make it." Anxiety found himself on the ground suddenly. He looked down, a rock. He had tripped over a rock, and Roman was advancing on him. Why was he getting closer? Why was he looking at Anxiety like that, why was he holding his sword? Anxiety didn't understand.
"You should let me finish my sentence." Roman frowned, but continued on with a sigh. "If I'm going to make it out of here, I don't need anything to slow me down. You, Anxiety... I'm not going to be able to carry you out of this place, and I refuse to go down with you. I'm better off going alone."
"So-So you're just gonna leave me here? What about when you get back, they'll wonder where I'm at!" Anxiety stared at Roman wide-eyed.
"It's a good thing I'm a good actor," Roman laughed, feigning innocence. "I-I tried to save him but-it all happened so quickly. Forgive me!" He chuckled again. "They'll just assure me I did my best, and we'll all move on like you never even existed."
"I thought you were meant to be the good guy." Anxiety spat at him through his tears.
"And I am. You're a bad guy, Anxiety. You're not helpful to Thomas. I'll be doing a good thing, getting rid of you."
"Please, no..." Anxiety begged, a sob escaping him. "Please, I won't slow you down, I-I don't deserve this..."
"I'm sorry, Anxiety. You're lying to yourself." Roman sighed, lifting his sword up over Anxiety.
"No!" He screamed, and Roman swung his sword, pain shot through his side.
Then, nothing.
Updating early today bc I probably won't get the chance to get on later. I have a doctors appointment and my phone has died on me, and won't turn back on.
Haha, you're welcome for the cliffhanger. Hope that you enjoyed this chapter, thanks for reading. Bye!-Bob
