Anxiety woke up, the world swaying. The trees around him seemed to be moving, and he wasn't sure what had just happened. As he became more and more aware of what was going on, he was ready to panic again.
Someone-or something-was carrying him, and he had no idea what had happened. He started to struggle, to squirm away from his captor, when he saw a flash of red. Roman's sash. It was only Roman.
Anxiety relaxed slightly, but soon grew annoyed.
"I can tell that you're up," Roman laughed, then sounded more concerned and serious. "How are you feeling? I was really worried when you collapsed."
"I'm fine." Anxiety didn't feel fine, exactly. His head hurt, and his thoughts and memories were still a big confused blur, but he wasn't worried about himself. "You shouldn't be carrying me. You're still hurt."
"Oh come on, I'm fine. It's nothing serious, and you're not heavy at all." Roman shrugged. "Don't worry about it."
"Don't tell me not to worry about things." Anxiety snapped. "Put me down before you hurt yourself more. What would happen if you got hurt carrying me? We both would have fallen, and how do you think we would get out of here if both of us were injured?"
Roman didn't set him down. "What was I supposed to do? We're not exactly safe staying in one place, I had to keep moving."
"Yeah, well, you didn't have to bring me... I'd get what I deserved." Anxiety muttered under his breath, surprised when Roman quickly set him on his feet in front of him, hands still on his shoulders. The royal was frowning, and looked angry, and Anxiety flinched back from him.
"I would never do that, Anxiety." Roman knew he was angry, and he didn't care if Anxiety didn't believe what he had to say. He just needed to say it. "Of course I wouldn't leave you behind, we're both going to make it out of here. I care about you, Anxiety, we can both get out of here together. I'm not going to let you die out here."
"Of course you're not going to let me die out here, but don't pretend that's because you care about me. That's just how you are, you're supposed to rescue people, even people like me. People that don't deserve it..." Anxiety stared at the ground, holding back tears, and Roman's heart broke at the sight.
"Anxiety, I..." Roman had so much he wanted to say. He wanted to admit to Anxiety that since their adventure through the forest, he had changed his view of the other. He wanted to tell him that he often found himself enjoying being there with him, wanted him to know how much he cared.
Wanted him to know he had begun to fall desperately in love with him.
"I don't think we should argue about this..." He sighed. Coward, his mind shouted at him. "We should keep moving."
"Yeah." Anxiety mumbled. "I knew I was right."
Roman groaned, and was ready to finally confess everything to Anxiety, to make him see how much he cared. To tell him off for still thinking he was hated and undeserving of being saved, to tell him that the exact opposite was true. He was loved.
Then something behind Anxiety caught his eye.
Gay enough for ya? Lol, about time Roman. At least he realizes.
