Doing my normal routine for the day, getting out of bed was harder than usual. I felt like the kids felt that way too. I knew today was going to be a hard day, from hearing my mother laughing with a few of her friends already this morning.
Getting to school, I knew was gonna be hard because I was slacking behind on time. Today I had to pick up my check since I didn't get to the other day. Check day for the Price family was like a wish coming true. I make a good bit of money doing what I do. I mean I get around three hundred dollars a paycheck. That doesn't count tips, but, it doesn't help that there are 6 mouths to feed.
Kinsey played some music through the house to get all of our moods up, seeing how my mom was on the verge of falling to the floor. It's only 6 AM and she is high off her ass to the point she can't even walk.
"You better get going" Kinsey declared towards me. I knew I really needed to leave so I could be on time. "I'll finish here" she pushed me back so I would leave already.
And, so I did. I left the house walking towards the school. My legs hurt from the lack of food. I needed something in my system right about now. Right on cue, I heard an awfully familiar truck pull up. I knew I needed to get in or I would be late.
I turned my head to see a shrugging Aaron, his hair was in a messy style making him look kind of good. His dark brown eyes looked like chocolate, it kind of made my stomach growl. I looked down after I noticed that Aaron also heard my stomach make a very ungrateful noise.
He did his usual furrowing his eyebrows together looking at me, "You hungry?" he chuckled.
I shook my head no trying to keep myself serious. But he looked straight past that, "Get in" I did as told and got into the silver Ford truck. "I'm not hungry" I lied. Aaron knew I was lying of course since he pulled up to a fast food restaurant drive through. Ordering food he pulled up to the next window, handing them the money. I closed my eyes tightly shaking my head, I was on the verge of crying. It hurt to see someone buy something for me. It made me sick because I couldn't pay for it myself.
After his purchase, he handed me the food, "I want the breakfast wrap. You can have the rest. I wasn't exactly sure what you liked so I bought different things"
He wasn't going to take no for an answer, so I just stuffed my face full of food I have never had before. "Oh. My. God. That was heaven" I giggled, talking with my mouth partially full. Aaron looked at me with sad eyes, and it's not the first time someone has given me those eyes. My aunt does it all the time when I get out of control, or angry.
"Don't look at me like that" I snapped throwing the trash back in the bag. All he did was shake his head, "Please tell me you eat all the time but are one of those girls that never stop getting hungry, and don't gain any weight"
I let my head fall in shame. He knew something was up, no need to really lie now. "I don't eat all the time"
For some reason, Aaron's eyes got some anger in them, like he was about to attack someone. "I feel like you're hiding something right now" I snapped my head towards him letting my light brown hair fall everywhere. "What do you mean?"
Playing it off cool was something I was good at, I've become a boss at it. "I'm going to pick you up every day at your house and drive you to school." He ordered. My body got tense, there was no way in hell I would let that happen.
"No" I snapped. Right now, is when I start shutting him out. I wouldn't get any closer than this. He looked at me confused and why I had an extreme mood change.
"I mean, I can't. My mom doesn't like any type of people around our house. She is a germaphobia meaning she doesn't even like other cars in our driveway." That wasn't my best lie, but right now I couldn't think. Aaron just looked at me like I had just hurt his feelings. I felt bad, he just wants to help.
"Fine, I will pick you up by your car, and, I'm fixing it whether you like it or not."
We pulled up to the school and he jumped out and walked over to my side. I opened the door and stepped down so I was on the pavement. He stood beside me looking like an idiot. "What are you doing?" I laughed.
"I, Aaron Marshall Avery is now your friend. So, I, Aaron Marshall Avery, will walk with you into the school." He spoke with pride, it made me cringe on the inside. I can't have friends. But, I chose to let that slide at the moment. I was kind of enjoying his company.
When I was younger, I would have all my friends over like every night. Well, until everything went down. But, anyways, I had a good but of friends, and I pushed them all away. The only person I have close to some kind of friend is Kinsey, and I don't count her because she is my little sister. Kinsey has friends, but they never hang out around the house. She has to go elsewhere if she wants friends. It's a Price family rule.
"Hello, earth to Price" I looked up and my blue eyes connected with his dark brown eyes. "Yeah?"
He tilted his head back laughing, "I will see you after school. I'll give you a ride home"
I was just about to argue but he held a finger up telling me no. I hate how he gets his way on everything. I just want to be able to go home and lay in my bed without thinking that maybe I could have another potential stalker on my ass.
Letting the thought pass through my head I walked to my first-period class. Maybe having a friend won't be so bad after all. Aaron seemed trustworthy, I just couldn't take that jump right now. Maybe here in a few days, we will see how everything goes for now.
