(7) Let's do this

Today was the day I had to take 3 of the kids to the doctors and I had no way of getting there. So, I did the first thing that popped into my head. I called my boss and asked if I could borrow her car, because she was the only person out there that knew about my big mess of my family. Because, she is my aunt. She is actually my dad's sister, and she doesn't want in our family mess but if I need a car she will let me use hers.

I dialed her number and waited patiently. After I got the 'Okay' to use her car I got the kids rounded up. She said she would bring it to me so that I didn't have to bring the kids into the restaurant. Since its currently a weekend, I had to get many things done. The kids' doctor's appointments and getting my paycheck and going shopping.

Kinsey obviously came with me to help out with the younger ones. I just needed Tyla, Ryan, and Brinica. Taking Brinica to the doctor was the hardest because the devil mostly beat on her when I wasn't around to keep it from happening. Because Brinica is so small and scared she takes it. Now, think about it. What were you doing when you were 12? Probably playing with your friends and your little babies that you got for your birthday or some type of holiday. Not Brinica, she gets beaten and tortured because she is the tiniest.

The devil doesn't even touch Ayden because she knows everyone will tag in on beating her face in. But, Brinica, she doesn't even scream when it happens so you never know. She freezes in the moment from shock, and she doesn't move.

After all the kids were in the van, we started our very long day. We all knew we would have to go home to seeing mom passed out on the floor. That's what happens when we aren't home, well most of the time.

Kinsey turned on the radio making all the kids go nuts from the music, that is one thing they enjoy, music. Since we don't have holidays like other people, we have singing contests, and whoever wins gets the holiday prize.

Like last year, Kinsey won and her request was a cell phone. So, I bought her that cell phone. Let me tell you, it has come in so handy I can't even explain. I peered back at the kids through the mirror and smiled, they were happy for getting away. Too bad these smiles won't last forever. Soon it will be taken away.

My smile faded as I saw a very familiar truck in the doctor's parking lot. I kept the car running to get our story straight, "Alright little ones. You know how we want to keep this family a secret?" I asked knowingly.

They all answered with a 'yes' making me nod. "I know someone who may possibly be in here. So, I am babysitting because your family went on vacation"

I turned around so that I could face all of them, each nodded their heads. I looked at Kinsey and she gave me a thumb's up. "Let's do this" I sighed getting out.

The clothes I was wearing today were way too big on me, I was struggling to walk without them falling down.

I've lost more weight.

Kinsey realized my struggle and she looked down at her belt she had and she took it off, I smiled at her for being such a sweetheart. I mouthed a 'thank you' to her making her smile. I looped the belt through my pants and made it as tight as possible.

When we walked into the doctor's office it was quiet, and I knew that would change as soon as the kid walked in. I went to the front desk and wrote down the names of the children who the family doctor would be seeing today.

I turned around on my heels and looked straight at Aaron, he had his head back on the seat and didn't even notice me before Brinica yelled an "ouch" through the whole building.

"Brinica," I warned sternly. She pointed to her arm where a bruise was formed, I kneeled down to her and looked at it. It was in a shape of a ball, so I went with the story that Ryan was playing baseball in the backyard and she got hit.

"Miracle" Aaron stood up and walked over looking at all the little children standing in front of me.

"Oh, Hey Aaron!" I smiled playing it safe. He looked at me and the kids and gave a really relaxed smile, "Are these your siblings?"

I gave a fake snort laughing a bit, "Nope, I'm babysitting for a couple of weeks while their parents are on a vacation in the Bahamas"

He nodded his head, "Five kids are a lot, how are you handling it?" he asked swiftly. I had to keep playing cool, I had no choice. "They are great kids. I barely have to do anything"

Then it came to the point my anxiety was kicking my ass, "Did you ever find your dog? I lost you when I came out of the alleyway from looking"

I began tapping my foot repeatedly, he could tell there was something off but it's not like he was going to call me out on it. "Oh, yeah, him." I looked down at Ayden and he smiled at me making me calm down a little. Me, in these types of lying situations, hurt me physically and mentally. I, at one point, sucked at lying. It took me so long to be able to lie straight to someone's face without being caught.

"I saw him running down the road. I was gonna yell and tell you but I had no time because he was taking off. Thankfully I caught him and brought him home safely." It was a good lie. I was doing a bomb ass job at the moment.

Thankfully the nurse came to my rescue calling my name to bring the kids back. I waved goodbye to Aaron and walked in through the door where the nurse was standing.

She was a really nice nurse and played around with each and every one of the kids making them laugh and carry on. It made me relax a little bit to see the little ones smiling so brightly. She didn't even mention the bruise on Brinica's arm. I know she has seen it because she touched it like it was nothing.

"Miracle, can I talk to you outside for a second?" She asked opening the door for me to venture out. I nodded my head and looked at all the kids hoping they would stay quiet.

After she shut the door behind me she let out a long and dramatic sigh, "Each of the kids lost a lot of weight. They seem kind of down and I'm kind of concerned about it. Also, the bruise on Brinica's arm is pretty nasty."

"I have no way of explaining the weight loss, they just have been outside running around and barely eating. I have a hard time getting them inside. I lost a lot of weight for the same reason, except mine is from trying to keep up with them energetic kids. And, the bruise, that was an accident on Ryan's part. He and Ayden were playing baseball outside and the ball ended up hitting little Brinica. Now the being down, I also can't explain that because I don't even know that situation either." I was satisfied with my lie, it kind of made me sick from being able to lie so well. People would have no idea what's going on at all if I would lie like this all the time.

"That's all I needed to know. Thank you" She placed a hand on my shoulder and smiled. I gave her another reassuring smile that nothing was going on before she walked away.

This was becoming extremely stressful.
