"What? Why? They do their searching in the winter?" I tell him and he shakes his head, running a hand through his hair in distress. I could tell he never had to deal with them because his father most likely handled it well without him.

For a first encounter they were ones to be feared, no one messed with them. Even if the rest of the packs in North America banded together to take them down, we wouldn't have the skill level. They started training the children at ten, we started a year before they shift. With their new Alpha who supposedly killed his mate and his father in order to be the supreme leader, no one liked him, but feared him enough to do what he asks.

Sebastian had threatened my mother before while she was trying to hide me from him. He didn't like secrets, so when he sniffed me out from outside while I was tucked in the basement he had her by the neck. Threatening her about how to never hide me again. I was only twelve and she new that I couldn't have a mate from their pack, I was too young anyways.

Something about him had me feeling off, like he had something under his sleeve all the time. It was worse for our pack because we just so happened to be the neighbouring pack. Besides the dead, useless land between our packs.

"They are here doing their routine search, except Sebastian is with them." Hearing that Sebastian is with them must mean these are his highest ranking looking for their mate, he likes to be around when his pride and joy are showing off.

"Give me ten minutes and I'll be outside waiting with you." I pull on his arm but he yanks me back looking me deep in my eyes.

"Five." He puts a tighter limit on me and I nod, running to my room and jumping in the shower. Washing away my tears and quickly conditioning my hair, shaving my arms quickly before hopping out. I didn't have time to dry my hair so I only put it down my back in one braid before grabbing some clothes.

I didn't have time to grieve my mother at the moment, when the black heart is here you forget everything. All you want is to get them off your pack lands. Doesn't matter who they are, no one from black heart can be trusted to remain civil.

I reached for my drawers and almost ripped them out of the dresser for how fast I was moving. Grabbing some undies and a bra to match, I new I would have to look my best so I threw on a black sundress that had a simple heart line and a tight waist fitting it. I needed to look like a Luna for this encounter. It was my turn to take my mothers place and lead strong.

Looking in my bathroom mirror I looked decent, luckily I had perfect skin so I never needed makeup.

With a quick dash I found Noah in his office wearing a new unwrinkled black suit that fitted his body nicely, his hair was damp as well but still looked well done.

"Let's go." I nod and he intertwines our hands, my ring meeting his soft flesh for a first time. Looking down we both smiled, him more than me considering the circumstances of today.

We pick up our pace and finally exit the house, hand in hand as we watch Sebastian and his crew pull up in their expensive black looking vehicles. My heart hammered in my chest as if it would explode any minute now. Something was going to go wrong, my instincts were screaming at me like never before.

Noah squeezes my hand and I look back up to him, almost forgetting in the moment that we are married and set to lead this pack together.

The first car stops and the rest follow, in a slow motion it's like everything had stopped. The first door opening with someone stepping out, their back to us as they fixed their suit in the front. A hand slowly comes up and runs through their inky black hair. Turning around I couldn't help but gasp.
