"Don't wish, don't start. Wishing only wounds the heart."

Alex stood herself in front of her mirror in just her undergarments, debating on whether she should call in sick to the medbay. There were rings around her eyes from how much she cried the night before. The bruises on her hips and chest were starting to fade. Her head pounded from the lack of caffeine in her system. Half eaten breakfast sat on the kitchenette counter.

It was just another day.

Her communicator beeped multiple times in a row before she mustered up the energy to answer it. She picked it up and hesitated, before realizing that it was Spock who contacted her.

"Yes, Captain?" She tried her best not to sound groggy.

"Doctor Watterson. May I have a word with you on the bridge before you begin your shift?"

Alex froze. "Uh...yeah. Give me five minutes."

She rushed around her room, getting dressed and threw on enough make up to make herself look reasonable before heading out the door, not bothering to put her hair up. She pushed her way through crowds of other crew members of the Enterprise. She silently entered the turbo lift, admiring how the lights danced across the buttons and how the light differed as it passed through different decks.

The doors opened to the bridge and the all too familiar sights and sounds. She approached the Captain's chair, bracing herself for the conversation that was bound to happen.

"Spock?"

The Vulcan snapped his head around and stood up calmly, acknowledging her presence. "Doctor Watterson, thank you for coming." He stepped up towards her so he could stand next to her.

"What can I do for you?" She asked, folding her arms across her chest.

"I want to talk to you about the discussion we all had here on the bridge yesterday."

Alex scoffed. "Discussion..."

"I would like to apologize for sending Jim away."

"Why?"

"I recognize that you two are very close to each other, and I hope that you will be able to understand why I made that decision." The two of them circled around towards the back.

"Thanks." She mumbled. "Can I ask a question before I go to work?"

"Of course."
