"We're heading for something, somewhere I've never been. Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn 'bout the power of love."

"Are you ready?" Christine finished tying the back of Alex's wedding dress, hugging her around the waist, and looking at her in the mirror.

Alex sighed and shrugged. "Ready as I'll ever be."

"You look absolutely stunning, Alex." Christine smiled. "You have no reason to be afraid."

"I'm not afraid, I'm absolutely terrified. I feel like I'm going to mess everything up."

"You're not going to mess up anything." Alex and Christine turned around to see Jim in his dress greys, and her father and Winona dressed for the occasion. "Chris, we've got to line up."

Christine nodded, and kissed Alex on the cheek. "You're going to do great."

Jim gave Alex one last hug before leaving with her. "You look beautiful, sis. Knock him dead out there."

"Love you, Jim." Alex smiled and squeezed his hand as he left, calling a "love you too" as he left the dressing room.

"Oh sweetheart..." Winona cradled Alex's face. "I'm so happy for you."

Alex wiped a tear from her step mother's cheek. "Thank you. Thank you for everything you've done for me."

Winona kissed her forehead. "You're welcome baby girl. You've made us so proud."

Alex smiled and wiped a tear from her own eye as Winona went and joined the processional.

"Are you ready?" Alex looked up at her father as he held out his arm to her.

Her father caressed her cheek with his thumb. "I was never prepared to give you away, but I have to do it at some point."

The doors opened to reveal the small crowd that came stood up from their seats. Alex tightened her grip on her father's arm as she looked down the aisle to see her husband to be at the other end of the aisle. Bones was frozen still as soon as he laid his eyes on Alex. She smiled weakly as Jim clapped Bones on the shoulder, and he didn't take his eyes off of her. Alex didn't realize she was almost all the way down the aisle when she noticed that tears were welling up in his eyes. When the two got to the end of the aisle, she hugged her dad as hard as she could.

"I love you daddy."

"I love you too, Alexandra." Her dad kissed her cheek and left to go sit down.

Alex turned to Bones and wiped a few tears away from his eyes. "Are you going to keep it together before I lose it or have you already lost it?"

Bones shrugged while laughing and taking Alex's hand. "Are we taking bets on this? I forgot." He brought her hand up, giving her a light kiss on the knuckles.

Alex rolled her eyes. "In case we were, you already lost."

It had officially been one year.

One year since Starfleet was attacked. One year since Pike died. One year since they attacked Kronos. One year since Admiral Marcus was killed trying to militarize Starfleet. One year since the Vengeance crashed down on earth and wrecked half of San Francisco. One year since Jim died while saving the Enterprise from doing the same. And one year since Alex, Bones, and M'Benga revived him.

She wasn't sure if she was ready to go back to Starfleet, or even space for that matter. Her and Bones had only been married for a month, her name changing legally, but still going by her maiden name to avoid confusion.

But today was nothing like she had expected a one year Memorial to go. Jim was rechristening and re-reciting the Captain's oath today, so the Enterprise crew could officially start a true mission.

"There will always be those who mean to do us harm. To stop them, we risk awakening the same evil within ourselves. Our first instinct is to seek revenge when those we love are taken from us. But that's not who we are..."

Alex stood perfectly still in her dress greys, once again standing in between Bones and Chekov as a few tears sprung in her eyes, remembering the turmoil that devastated the entire crew.

"When Christopher Pike first gave me his ship, he had me recite the Captain's Oath. Words I didn't appreciate at the time. But now I see them as a call for us to remember who we once were and who we must be again. And those words: Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before."

Alex burst into tears as the crowds erupted into applause for him. So much had gone in to preparing them for a mission of this extent, and the culmination of life changing events brought them here today. She definitely felt more mature now than she did when their first mission had departed from earth two years ago. And she felt everyone else was too.

This was going to be the adventure of a lifetime.
