"The highway won't hold you tonight
The highway don't know you're alive."

Alex woke up the next morning from the sun in her eyes, laying directly in between Jim and Chekov, who were both still asleep. Chekov had curled up to Alex in the middle of the night, and she did her best to comfort him from a nightmare.

She looked around to see where they were, and they were not far from where they had landed the night before. She took a deep breath and coughed harshly, the smoke inhalation having done damage to her windpipe.

Chekov groaned and rolled away from her, rubbing his eyes and sitting up.

"Are you okay?" He asked, turning to her.

Alex shrugged. "Are you?"

"Other than ze nightmare, I'm okay. Sorry for waking you up last night." Chekov scratched at the back of his neck.

"You don't need to worry about it." She turned to Jim to wake him up, shaking his shoulder a little too rough. He shot up almost immediately, reaching for his phaser.

"Jim! It's me. We're going. Come on."

--

Alex groaned as she jumped down the boulder covered slope, following closely behind Chekov and Jim, Chekov's scanner searching for the beacon from Kalara's call.

"How far are we from the coordinates of that call?" Jim asked.

"Still a ways, sir." Chekov shook his head. "Keptin?"

"Yeah?"

Chekov faced Jim. "Ven did you begin to suspect her?"

"Not soon enough." Jim shook off the question.

"How did you know?"

They followed him though a smaller alley of large boulders. "I guess you could say I've got a good nose for danger."

"You don't say..." Alex muttered. Jim took one more step forward when something beeped, and a smoke trap was set off.

"Run!"

They tried to keep moving through the thick smog, but they were immediately trapped in place as it began to stick to them like cement and hold them in place.

--

"This is going to get old real fast." Jim groaned, trying to budge the cement like trap.
