As soon as they got to the bar, Esme folded up the report and shoved it in her back pocket, hopping out of the van as soon as she did, "So, you've decided to disobey direct orders?"
"I choose to think of it more as a suggestion," Selvig replied, "Wouldn't you agree, Agent Taylor."
"I think that if your friend was that violent sober, he probably shouldn't be drinking," Esme told him dryly, "But I suppose you'll take that as a suggestion too."
"I told you he wasn't sober," the doctor narrowed his eyes.
"Drug test says otherwise," the brunette replied, "but I'm pretty sure Coulson already knows that."
"You remind me of the Lady Sif," the blond told her, "and my brother Loki"
"Thanks..." Esme didn't quite know how to respond to that as she was pretty damn sure that Loki was portrayed as a villain in the myths.
"You are a warrior," Thor (she was calling him that now, as he seemed to think that was who he was) elaborated, "and are equally as much a trickster."
That made the agent even more unsure of whether or not he was complimenting her, "Okay, then. Let's just get this over with."
Esme spun around and walked straight into the bar, seating herself in a bar seat where she could still see most of the room. Selvig and Thor followed closely behind her, sitting beside her.
"What'll it be?" a bartender asked them, at which point Esme turned out surveying the area for any possible threats, just as she was trained to do.
"-and for you ma'am?" Esme looked back up.
"Just water, thanks."
"You sure?" he asked again.
"I'm sure," the sniper reiterated, making her voice a stern as possible.
The man left for only a few moments before setting three giant mugs of beer, and two shots of whiskey down in front of them. Esme was about to point out that she hadn't wanted a beer when he turned to pick up and set a glass of water down in front of her.
"And water for the lady."
"Thank you," Esme tilted her head at him and smiled, then frowned, "Why are there three glasses of beer?"
"Just in case," the bartender told her, shrugging.
The sniper's frown turned into a full on scowl, "I said no. I meant no. And if you hadn't noticed, I'm a federal agent and can arrest you if I want to."
The last part was completely untrue, but it seemed to get the point across as the man took away the giant mug. Esme smirked to herself as she rose the glass to her lips.
"Seems Darcy's a terrible intern, but a talented hacker," Selvig said from beside her, causing the brunette to choke on her drink.
"Darcy did that?" she sputtered.
"Uh..." the doctor didn't seem to realize that she was still listening.
"I knew she wasn't 'just a political science major'," Esme muttered, feeling like she was going to be saying a very joking 'I told you so,' to her romantic as soon as she saw her next.
"Thank you for all you have done."
"Don't thank me," Selvig told him, "I only did it for Jane."
"Are you in love with her?" Thor asked, seeming to be genuinely curious.
"Of course not!" Selvig exclaimed, "Jane's like a daughter to me. Her father and I taught at University together. A good man, but he never listened."
"Neither did I," the blond responded, causing Selvig to eye him with interest.
"I don't know if you're really delusional-"
"He is," Esme broke in, "Drug test confirmed it. No drugs, medication, or alcohol whatsoever. Also Thor and his hammer are just Myths made by the Norse. Therefore, he's delusional"
Selvig looked at her briefly, "-and I really don't care at this point. I just care about her. I've seen the way she looks at you. And I've seen her soulmark."
Esme looked up in surprise. Soulmark? Darcy's friend was bonded to this man?
"I swear to you," Thor began, "I mean her no harm." "
"Good. If that's the case, then I'll buy you one more drink, and you'll leave own tonight."
Esme's nose wrinkled when the blond nodded in agreement. This man must not know what a soulmark is, that or he didn't respect them, because she didn't know anyone who would willingly leave their soulmate without any way to contact them except for people who didn't want a soulmate at all. This guy was a total enigma.
Well, the bar scene has happened and I revealed a new soulmate pairing. Honestly, the whole reason that Thor isn't reacting to the soulmark thing is either because Asgardians don't have soulmarks like humans do or don't have them at all. Which one it is, I haven't decided. So, that's some conflict for the future. Also, I created some of my first fanart this week and have completely focused on creating an OC for Steven Universe (I just finished season 4) that I will probably never write about. And not to mention that it was digital art and I was drawing and coloring everything with a mouse. So, I'm pretty proud. Anyway... I hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you all again next Friday with chapter twelve.
