All of them raced out onto the streets as a large blast sounded from the storm and a giant tunnel of multi-colored light shot down and hit the sand. The noise incited people to come pouring out of buildings all around them to get a look at what was happening. Something giant was in the distance and it was surrounded by SHIELD agents.
Esme made a quick decision, whipping around to face Thor, "Okay, I know I'm supposed to keep an eye on you, but that's the kind of thing I'm trained to deal with and my coworkers are already trying to deal with it. They could use more firepower."
"We will come with you," Sif told her, unsheathing a sword from her back along with a small shield.
"You must leave this town," Thor encouraged Jane, "Get yourself and your friends to safety."
"What about you?" the scientist asked.
"I will stay and fight," when the other Asgardians (that was the term, right?) turned to him, he continued, "I'm still a warrior, and I will fight by your side."
"You're but a mortal now," Volstagg argued, "You'll get yourself killed!"
"Or one of us, trying to protect you," Fandral continued.
"The best thing you can do is get the mortals to safety and leave the battle to us," Sif finished.
"But what of Lady Taylor?" he blurted out, "She is a mortal as well."
"I'm aware," the sniper deadpanned, "But I don't exactly plan on facing it head on, now do I? That'd be suicide."
"The best thing you can do is get the mortals to safety and leave the battle to us," Sif told him, a sense of finality in her words.
"You're right," the warriors looked surprised at Thor's cooperation, and based off of his previous persistence with the hammer at SHIELD, they probably had a reason to be.
Thor turned to Darcy, Jane, and Selvig, "Help me clear the streets. I'll let none of these people die this day."
Esme kissed Darcy's cheek, "I'll send over Perkins to help with the evacuation. Be safe."
"Be safe," Darcy repeated before jogging off with the others, leaving Esme with Sif and the Warriors Three.
The four of them started down the street toward the machine, "Keep it distracted," Sif told the three men as she grasped a hold of the brunette shirt sleeve, tugging her to a fork in the road.
"I need to get over to the SHIELD agents," Esme told her as she took the handgun out of her belt, "What're you planning to do?"
"I will jump from the highest building, catch the Destroyer by surprise," Sif stated, "Good luck."
"You too," she waved as they split up, Sif towards a ladder on the back of one of the buildings and Esme toward the SHIELD team on the other side of the Destroyer.
She gradually got faster until she was sprinting, only skidding to a stop when she reached the group of agents, "Coulson!" she shouted, "What's the plan?"
"We don't know what that is or how to stop it," the agent replied, "But we can get everyone out of the town. I want you and Barton to distract that thing. Don't get too close. Everyone else- start the evacuation!"
Happy Friday everyone! I know it's been a while since my hiatus went into effect, and I think my Writer's Block is finally gone! So, I hope that you'll all enjoy this chapter and have a wonderful day! I hope to see you all again with chapter eighteen! :)
